Any nightlife in Maui, HI? Leave tomorrow

Me and my buddy (both 19, but I turn 20 in a few days) are going to Hana, Hawaii for 2 weeks... we're leaving tomorrow and staying with his sister when we get there (she lives in Hana).
She has a car so we wanted to make some day trips around the island while we were there. We like to party, so I was wondering if there was any like club scenes on the island we could hit up one night? Hana seems pretty empty, but maybe on the more popular parts?

How strict is the law enforcement over there?

Any cool stuff I should definitely check out in/near Hana that isn't too expensive (we are cheap college kids)?

I doubt you'll find much night life in Hana itself, and I doubt you will want to end up driving back to Hana after drinking at where the nightlife is. The road to Hana is a treacherous winding 2 lane with one lane bridges with at least a 200 foot drop into the jungle on one side. There are some pretty cool people in Paia, its kind of a hippy atmosphere. The locals have full moon raves somewhere northwest of Kahului. Most of the bars I think are in Kehei, that town is super commercial and to be honest it could be next door to walmart anywhere in the USA. A little south of there is Makena State park where the best beaches are. On the north end of that beach as you get to it from the parking lot there is a wall of volcanic rock with a crooked little path where you can climb over it. On the other side of the wall is a smaller beach, its clothing-optional and you'll likely meet some pretty cool people there at dusk on friday nights. I was on Maui for 2 weeks and I don't remember seeing any cops at all, but I wasn't looking for trouble either.

Honolulu is where you go for the night life. You should check out the natural beauty, ie the jungles, waterfalls, top of haliakala

Or maybe go see him..

There's not much of anything in Hana...which is exactly why it's the quiet, out-of-the-way destination that many people prefer. If you want "night life," you'll have to make the long drive into Kahalui or longer drive to Lahaina or Kihei.

BEWARE the Hawaiians...they cheered on the "Avatarians" in the movie.

good info for when I go to Maui this august!

If you want to party go to Honolulu for a couple days.

The road to Hana is challenging enough in the daytime when totally sober. Attempting it at night while intoxicated is basically suicide.

I haven't made the trip in several years, but there used to be a couple of cars waaa-aay down in the canyons and such...good evidence that you DO need to pay attention when making that drive...not sight-seeing and gawking.

"OH MAH GAWD ETHEL! Did you see that bird? "<crash>

It's kind of a fun drive but definitely not recommended for people who are easily distracted or women.

Hana is pretty dead in general but it has some AWESOME nature right around it.

I went to Maui for my honeymoon 2 years ago and there honestly wasn't any night life at all near where we stayed. we stayed on the north/west area on kaanapali beach. We had a few bars near us along the beach but no places where music were playing.

I believe there was like 1 or 2 night clubs but they were like 30 mins from us so we didnt bother, but I could be wrong.

If you are staying near Hana, make SURE to go see the 400ft water fall. its a 2 mile hike up a mountain but it is fucking awesome. i felt like I was on LOST part of the time hiking up there. you see some HHUUGGEEE trees with trunks like 10+ feet wide, a buncha waterfalls, walk through a bamboo forest, then see the huge 400 foot waterfall at the top. it is the coolest thing i've ever seen in my life, i was literally speechless when we came upon it.

the 7 sacred pools were okay but not nearly as cool as the hike up the mountain.

but in general, Maui is probably the last place I would go if I was single and looking to party heh. It literally is like all couples and families there.

There is nothing in Hana except natural beauty, and DO NOT drive back from anywhere after partying. there's a reason they make shirts, "I survived the road to Hana". The only nightlife I know about is the bars in Lahaina, and perhaps local dives in Kihei, but seeing you're not 21, you won't be going to any bars (fake IDs?). you might want to consider getting a room in Kihei (much cheaper than the touristy locations) for a few nights just so you can be out of the Hana area. Once you're in Hana, you won't want to make that drive more than once, or twice.
If you want details on other things to do in Maui, let us know. 🙂 Best Island IMHO for having it all....

yeah hana is not really a night life kind of place. You go to maui to enjoy nature and climbing and such. And DO NOT drive the road to hana after partying. Ill give the locals credit I thought i was going a reasonable speed but they would just fly past me. They really have nerves of steel to drive that road that fast.

Try doing that drive at night looking for your accommodations in the middle of fucking nowhere!

In Maui you want to be over on the Ka'anapali/Lahaina side for "nightlife". I go there every year for a week and am leaving in a few days. The nightlife there is different than in the states. Most people are tuckered out quite a bit earlier due to being out in the sun all day.

You're doing it wrong if you're looking for night life on your honeymoon.

yea guess you can't go dance and have fun with your SO on a honeymoon, that would be lame!

also OP, completely forgot ... GO SNORKELING AT MOLOKINI!!

it is the best snorkelling i've done in my life! actually hawaii in general has the best snorkelling out of the places i've been.

There is NOTHING in Hana, and almost nothing on Maui.

Gotta place down there and took my girlfriend down there for Christmas, ended up drinking on the patio every night.

Well if that's what you wanted you're a retard for not doing research before you went down.

The only 'club' on the island is called Tsunami at the Grand Wailea and it's only open for private parties.
