Any nice/cheap weekend getaways in the Northeast?

I just want to getaway for Fri-Sun. I want to be able to drive there (from NYC). And I want the price to be right. The priority is being together, not shopping, gambling, or anything else. Any recommendations?

Go to okemo (ludlow, vt) and find a bed and breakfast close by. Skiing and snow stuffs and plenty of quaint little places nearby.

In for recommendations as well. Last driving-distance trip from NYC we made was Newport RI... mansions and all but it's too fricken cold to enjoy it (just like when we went). Another is always Cape Cod... would love to hear more.

Manchester, VT is nice this time of year..... it's about an hour drive from Albany. The Equinox hotel is beautiful... highly recommended.

If you're talking about this time of year, I'm drawing a blank, other than bed and breakfasts.

If you're open to waiting til spring or so, and enjoy the outdoors & peace & quiet, then I'd recommend the Adirondack mountains. Thousands of places to camp (for free). At many of them, you'd be lucky to see more than a dozen people all weekend. There are also many bed & breakfast type places in that area, and small non-national chain, non-by-the-hour hotels.

How about:

Rent a beach house (CHEAP!), crank the heat up, drink hot chocolate, watch movies...

How would you go about doing that?

I would guess asking a chick, cause only a chick would think of something like that.

Excellent idea! Google is your friend here, OP. Pick a beach community with Victorian architecture.

Otherwise, bop down 1-87 to Bucks County, on the Delaware, around New Hope. There are tons of B&B's, the former artist's colony of New Hope to stroll through, and tons of Revolutionary War era history and cultural stuff hereabouts.
