How exactly is Doze activated? I've read that it detects lack of motion or something.

How do you mean by how many times the screen is turned on? I am slow today.

For example, when I pick up my nexus 6 the screen turns on, via the motion sensor. I also have a custom kernel so if I tap on the screen twice it turns on.

It basically detects the wake processes and sees if there are any running that could be required for normal operation. If not, it goes to a low power state until something happens that requires waking up.

Go for it, look at post #64, few things to keep in mind

For this link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/guide-flash-factory-images-nexus-6shamu-t2954008
Follow method 2, don't bother with method 1.

In this link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/noob-read-adb-fastboot-how-help-t3006500

Worry only about fastboot/bootloader, ignore all adb/recovery stuff, you wont need them for method 2

For some reason I couldn't get the fastboot/adb stuff to work, so I used the Nexus Root Toolkit method crow550 listed. The battery savings on this so far is HUGE for me. I don't get to use my phone much at work but at the end of the day was close to 50% left and so far today I'm still in the mid/upper 80s. :)

My dev buddies say battery life of the preview M images was better than on the official release. Did anyone try the preview images, the last preview one?

I just yell at my phone to set timers. Way easier than flicking through a list.

I also use Timely. It doesn't store a timer history, because seriously what's the point.

The main timer app stores the timers one has used automatically, and it's quicker to use a stored timer on A4.4.4 than it is to create it from scratch, so I guess that's the point really, plus the rice always takes the same time to cook. The timers can also be labelled, so for example when cooking one can be certain which timer just went off (when multiple ones are in use simultaneously).

I've tried out other timer apps since A5 was released (I would guess about 5 over the whole time), but I haven't found anything that works well enough / quite as well for me.

I seriously doubt it's faster than yelling at your phone, though.

I also know how the stock clock works. What I don't know is why you keep putting a 'A' in front of Android version numbers. It clutters the reading, and it's pretty obvious, given the thread, that we're talking about Android.

"OK Google, set a 15 minute timer." The ONLY time it will take longer than that is the first time, IF you have multiple apps that can set timers.

As opposed to opening the app, navigating to your timers and scrolling blindly through them because you only see one at a time until you find the one you're looking for.

We cook, too. My wife and I just yell at our devices. Far more convenient.

I need to try this. I almost never use "OK Google" but it seems I am missing out on something.

I've recently started using voice commands now because of my smart watch. Its pretty intuitive and aometimes more accurate than my phone.

Folks notice any day to day difference? I know what Marshmallow brings wrt features, but do you find yourself doing anything differently or using a new feature regularly that wasn't on Lollipop?

What the heck?
In what way is doing all what you mentioned faster than saying "Okay Google, set a timer for 3 minutes" from your home screen?

I've found it to be hit or miss but my favorite easy commands are:

1) Ok Google, weather
2) Ok Google, set a timer for 10 minutes
3) Ok Google, set a reminder for tomorrow 5PM grocery shopping

Give it a shot and let us know how it goes.

I didn't say it was, but if you're going to take me up on it, I need to have some kind of Internet access enabled on my phone to use it (I leave it off until I actually want to use an Internet connection, which saves power).

So I enabled Internet access, it recognised my speech correctly (ie. the contents of the search box is correct), but it set a timer for 23hrs and 5 minutes time.

Yeah... I think I'll stick with my current system :)

It's kind of nice when studying and you run into a word you don't know

1.) Yes, great battery life, standby time has vastly improved. I charged only 10% in about 20 hours when it was not touched. Even while using I would see about 20 - 30% more battery life.

2.) No. But it might be just me. I do not see ANY difference. Maybe I am a novice/basic user

What did you say to it, exactly?

Setting a timer has never done that for me. Setting an alarm, on the other hand, has. And honestly, what's the point of a smart phone if it's not allowed to be smart? If you don't need internet connectivity, get a flip phone. Power savings for days.

True, I still have a Nokia 1208, sitting on my night stand, used for alarm and flash light. I have to charge it every 10 days or so...

I do not take my smart phone to bed, as the notifications bothers me, I can put it to silent, but then I forget to turn it back on and miss calls and other important notifications. I know with M or even L I can schedule the silent, but that's too much for my primitive brain

Exactly what was suggested in another post. I just tried it again just now and it worked.

I don't often need Internet connectivity through my mobile, but when I do, it's there. On average I get four days out of it before it's warning that the battery is low. Works for me.

I find this so odd. Not you specifically, but just that people in general have these incredibly awesome features at their fingertips and never use them (possibly not even know about them).

Like some less tech-smart friends I have who don't sync their contacts. If they lose/break their phone they have to beg for numbers again. I haven't lost a single number since I first got a smartphone... just seems so odd to me.

I think it's just a self consciousness thing. I am usually around people and don't want to be talking to my phone (I certainly wouldn't do so at work, which is 10 hours a day). So, I just never got used to using it. Also my first attempt at voice commands was with Siri on my 4S, and that experience was so bad I guess I just gave up hope!

Let me begin by saying that I never lost a number for as long as I can remember, T-Mobile had number backup feature even for dumb phones.

As far as voice commands in concerned, it's novelty for the most part, you cannot use it in most situations. At work you seriously don't expect people to start talking to their phones, it will be incredibly creepy and annoying. At home either the kids are screaming, TV is on or they are studying, can't talk to my phone in any case. While I am taking a dump? NOT HAPPENING

My Nexus 5 received OTA update today but it's 406.7 MB which I don't have, it'll have to wait until I can delete/offload some stuff.
