Any news on Vanilla 7800/7600GT/7600 cards yet?

I've been googling for info but can't find much if anything atall - just rumours that the 7800 may be a 16-pipe card... anyone got any information on specs/release dates?

I think Nv is just waiting for Ati to release it's midrange cards, because for now the 6 series can serve as midrange cards since they have almost the same feature set as the 7 series.

I think the plan on the lowering of cost of the 6*** fill in the low end. With features being the same they tend not to want fighting with their lower named ones. For example why create a 7600 and have it be slower then the 6800u even though it has a higher number. The only reason they replaced two lines in a row (and kind of three) was due to major changes specificly between the 5*** and 6***. All they really could/should do is re name the 68** to 76** the 66** to 72** and maybe if they really wanted to keep it around the 62** to 7***. Fact is they are better off with the 6800 keeping the same name, it was a powerful card and if it fits someones price range they are more likely to purchase that then a new 7600 because their friend down the street had good success with theirs.

Lets say nVidia will make 7600 and 7200 line, is there any change that the 7200's will actually have 12 pipes? I mean 7600=16, 7200=12 (or maybe 8?)

Probably 8.

I dunno, look at Ati - their rv515 budget card only has 4 pipes. I doubt Nv will be able to sell a 12 pipe 7200 for $100 or less. But 4 pipes - WTF? I bought a 4 pipe 9000p 3 years ago for $86, you'd think with all the technological progress they could at least make a 8 pipe budget card.

Theres a huge difference between the 9000p and the budget cards coming out. Pipes, just like Ghz means little now. There is probably a completely different architecture and much higher clocks.

That would be the 6600 once the new cards come out. They'll be well within the "budget" bracket.

Why would they need to come out with new 7 boards for mainstream? They already have all the same features in the 6 series mainstream parts.

well it would come with the same or more features at a slightly improved performance.
