I know HTC and Samsung both released "play store" edition of their flagship phones, but Ive heard that a nexus phone will still be released anyway.

Im currently using a GS2 and dying to upgrade. Was almost thinking about biting the bullet and getting a nexus 4, but its too late to buy something that will be upgraded hopefully pretty soon. So has anyone heard any rumors on the new nexus phone?

There have been rumors about Motorola, and other rumors about LG making the next Nexus. So... either we're just speculating and trolling, or they're mixing things up this cycle. Or something else entirely. In short, it's too early to know much of anything.

If you can wait, I'd say wait. If not, I am mostly pleased with my Nexus 4. The price is great, I love the look and feel (particularly the rounded glass at the edge of the screen), but the glass back is very slippery, and my father's shattered pretty soon after he got it, and mine has a small scratch. Definitely hoping that the next one won't have a glass back, and I will be very surprised if it does - I think the only Android phones around that do have glass backs are from Sony. So, if they did get the bid (which I haven't seen rumored, I'm just throwing it out there), hopefully they would modify the design a bit, or base it off of a non-glass model.

The Nexus 4 was released late last November, so I'd expect a refresh around the same time.

There are no good rumors about Nexus 5 release. It's not clear but most probably it will be manufactured by newly Google owned Moto.

All we heard about is it's expected spec
2.3 GHz quad-core snapdragon 800 processor
2 or 3 GB RAM
13 MP snapper
5.2' 1080p display
Back-placed volume rocker and power button
Android 5.0 stock Key Lime Pie out-of-the-box
2800-3000mAh Li-Po battery

Those rumors indicate it's going to be based on the LG G2, which would be great to see.

Whatever it's based on, it needs to come now! My gnex is showing its age.... lately with some really funny battery behaviour. Straight up not charging.

Blurgh. I don't want to wait until November...

Battery not charging is microUSB port issue. Try cleaning out the port.

With those specs, can we still expect a cheap device like the nexus 4 was/is? Havent been keeping up with phone tech, but by looking at those - im guessing that hardware would be better than the htc one and s4 - so is the chance of a sub $400 nexus phone out if thats what they will be releasing?

I'm really hoping they dont and do what they did with the nexus 7. Im fine with paying 329 or 379, but please dont make it like 600 bucks. Thats what the s4 and htc one are for.

I had this happen as well. For the all i had to do was bend that little tab up very slightly with a knife. With the screen facing towards you, you want to bend that spring so its not close to the bottom.

Also, using standard usb cables i think was the problem (bending that tab). The stock samsung usb cable in my experience is MUCH better than anything else. Its the one with the two little tabs on top, and feels like it clicks in when you insert it.

n4 came out with the best CPU and most ram, besting s3 and one x of the time. I'd expect them to keep their price point or raise it only slightly.
