Any new, smaller Android smartphones on the horizon?

I'm considering upgrading from my Galaxy S4 in the next several months. I absolutely hate the overall phone size and would like to get something at LEAST half an inch smaller. I really think 4" screens are ideal for me, but there doesn't seem to be much coming out smaller than 4.5" these days.

Other than the Galaxy Alpha, what are my choices? Is there anything coming out soon that I should hold out for?

well, actually the Z3 compact has a 4.6" screen (Z1 compact has 4.3" screen)

If you are in US
z3 compact model D5803 will be compatible with AT&T LTE (2, 4, 17, but not 2300mhz band 30, dunno how prevalent this band is).

compatible with some of T-mobile's LTE (2, 4, but not the 700mhz band 12)

obviously won't work with sprint/verizon

Z3 Compact, Galaxy Alpha, S5 mini.

The Z3 Compact will be the best phone spec wise, though as someone already mentioned, you need to check the band support for your carrier.

I don't know if any US carrier has announced a release for the Galaxy Alpha or the S5 Mini, though I'd expect both to eventually be released by carriers.
