I'm a front end developer and have a site that needs to be installed. I'm having issues installing the site because it requires both php4 and php5 libraries. I found some shortcuts but its one problem after another.

So basically, I can install the site but I need the correct libraries to be installed and configured to the database.

Any takers? Name your price. (mercy please, I'm a lowly designer lol) Will pay in Paypal.

You should be paying for managed hosting if you don't know how to manage your own server. Let them take care of it, that's why you pay them!

what Crusty said, and your problem doesn't sound like it has anything to do with mysql really.

Umm naw I'm the designer, and our small agency acquired a site to be transferred from another agency. They assumed I could install the site since I have lots of work in Wordpress. The custom CMS with the site is giving me fits.

But anyway, I'm the only designer/dev so I gotta figure this out. Godaddy should be handing all of the libraries then?

Exactly, you are the designer NOT the system administrator. Talk to your webhost about getting the correct software installed.

If they are leaving it up to you and you have root credentials on the box I'll install it for you, assuming UNIX. Otherwise, make your hosting company do it, thats what they get paid for.

Your web host should take care of this for you.,...if not, move hosts. This is assuming you have shared web hosting. If you've got a VPS/Dedicated server for your specific web site, and you aren't paying for management, you are on your own.

If his issues are with installing a custom CMS then I don't think the host will help with that problem.

What operating system? You need php4 *and* php5? Can you explain that further? Your original request mentioned MySQL, but if you need versions php4 and php5 installed (which I can't fathom why), that would have nothing to do with MySQL, unless you're talking about php-mysql or php-mysqli...

if this is a windows box you have RD access to this is really easy if you use WAMP 2.0

:thumbsdown:

Yeah, :thumbsdown;

I'm a DBA for a living. I've worked with most of the major relationship database systems, including things like MongoDB, and have to say that MySQL is truly the best option for small, cheap implementations.

Don't bash something that's quite useful in many circumstances..... not going to get you anywhere. Though I do agree that for larger deployments, it tends to not be the best scalable option without sharding.

If not the best, then definitely the most widely deployed and supported.

(I personally use PostgreSQL whenever possible.)
