Had a nice '94 Marin Bear Valley SE...weighed about 24-26lbs. Most of the bikes I am looking at now are in the 30lb range...don't know if that is just because of cheaper tires, rims, bars, etc...I like the Scott Aspect 55 and 45 so far but both are pushing my original $300 budget (which isn't a hard budget). My original bike was around $900 out the door with lock, helmet, kool stops, 2 bottles, a couple other things, I think the bike was $700. I wish I never sold it...I should have just let my parents hold on to it when I was renting a smaller place.

The Aspect 60 is also a great bike too, but closer to $500 than $300 and gives up a lot of pluses that the 55 model has for only $100 more (fork lockout and disc brakes being the major ones)

I am trying to find a local specialized dealer to check out the hardrock and rockhoppers...I used to hate Specialized's geometry but alot looks like it changed in the 10 years since I rode.

I am 5'10.5" and around 200lbs usually, if it matters.

The Scott bikes seem to offer a lot of bang for buck...I wanted another Marin, but they are brain damage money it seems today.
