Man this forum is now dominated by the whole Core Duo craze now LOL... AMD is no more sigh.

In that regard, I have been trying locally, by speaking to pretty much every one of the retailers here in Ottawa Canada if they can get an AMD X2 4800+. I like my system so I dont want to change everything again ugh... so I figured I would simply replace my trusty X2 3800+ to a X2 4800+ and OC that a bit. Has anyone here had any luck finding X2 4800+ in online stores here in Canada? is AMD still making them? They had a retarded price cut so it would be foolish of me not get one... and if I still go AMD X2 I might as well get their fastest 1meg version. Is Ebay the only way to go?

thanks...

When the prices dropped, I picked up mine for $295 US. I noticed Newegg has them for $307, looks like prices are starting to stabalize.

I thought they got axed too, but i managed to phone up a place here in calgary and get a pair of them for 350CAD each, but i don't know what prices are like online for them. I guess you just got to look around, i think AMD may have abolished the X2's with the 2x1MB cache because they were competing with the FX and opteron series processors

you're better off getting a 3800+ and ocing it to 2.4ghz.. you save a lot of money doing that. I have a 4200+ here running at 2.7ghz.

Just get a 3800+, mines running at 2.7, it can do 2.9 if u get a bit excesive with the voltage (1.5 volts)
Almost all of em will reach atleast 2.4ghz, and u are not missing much with less cache.

EDIT: its getting rediculously hard to get em here in australia, my friend had to get a 4600+ cause that the only one avalable for 400 AU dollars. Which is funny cause i spent 500 AU dollars for my 3800+ 5 months ago :p

BoboKatt, I have an X2 4800+ in my system and I wouldn't mind trading down. I'm sure there are others out there who wouldn't mind either. Have you tried the FS/FT forum?

Thanks guys, many great responses and ideas. I was able to find a local store here in ottawa that had 2 left after much searching - alwyas nicer to find it locally and save shipping etc... price was $355 CAD. Anyhow you are all right about the X2 3800+. I have that currently and really never OC'ed much over 225X10 at stock V. However lately I tried to push it just to see what the perfomance of the 4800+ would be at 2400mhz. I was able to reach 2.6 and honestly for what I do with it, it's not the end all be all. I will just keep my 3800+ X2 and go all out in a while with a full upgrade to a Conroe I guess or quad core if that ever happens. However I never thought to check the FS/FT area so cheers to that!
