Any more LGA775 Processors on the horizon?

Are there going to be any more quad-core CPUs for socket 775?

I'm not so sure about the public sector, but I'd think the server segment of 775 is still alive? If so, is there any chance for a "refresh" or a final release of "excess inventory" from warehouses?

What are the "best" server chips currently available for 775 in 65nm and 45nm respectively? Thank you.

There's nothing coming that I know of, and if there is it'll just be another higher clocked C2D/C2Q. To someone who already has an overclocked C2Q there is no upgrade route without changing motherboards for a new socket.

I saw some chips that were designated like, Q6850 or the like. Nothing that appeared to be an upgrade from the E8600 or the Q9650. Socket 775 is on its way out. 1156 and 1366 are going to be the standard in a few months for Intel.

The current nehalem i7 chips and the Q9xxx series both use the same 45nm process technology. Nehalem is a chip design update using the "same" process tech. However it includes the integration of the memory controller unto the CPU.
This is something that makes it absolutely NECESSARY to redesign motherboards. As portions of the northbridge are moved unto the CPU.

What exactly do you want them to refresh it with?

What's the highest end Quads available for LGA775 in the server market?

I know there are lists, but they're unhelpful.

There looks like an abstract variety of server chips that have different features, which are the ones specifically worth considering?

The 775 server segment was never "alive"... 771 is the server socket

Anyways to answer ur question:
Quad-Core Xeon X3230 best 65nm chip
Quad-Core Xeon X3380 best 45nm chip

I would not purchase either of these processors as they are $530 a piece. And u could get an i7+1336+6gb of memory for that much

What u most likely were asking for is:
Q6700 "best" 65nm chip
Q9550 "best" 45nm chip
Neither of these are technically the best but they arnt going to cost you 1k like the extreme editions will... I see you overclock and these will OC roughly the same as the extreme editions

as mentioned above, there is the Xeon x3380 with the .5 multi over the Q9650, but I wouldn't bother getting it. If you want a good 775 OC soltion, I would recommend the gigabyte p45 ud3p, and the Q9550 from micro center, which is only like $170. Better still, get a good x58 mobo and a D0 920. Or the xeon equivalent, the W3520.

I see you have a P5N-E SLI. That motherboard isn't particularly good at overclocking quad-cores. Also, it does not officially support 45nm quad cores.

However, it seems like the newest bios will work with a Q9505 (2.83GHz). It's $230 at Newegg:

ya, I was also thinking that. Most 680i boards or earlier have a lot of trouble with OCing the newer quads, and dont officially support most of them. Might want to pick up a cheap but good P45 board, like the gigabyte UD3P. Oops, already said that :D

Also, the Q9550 is even cheaper at micro center, only $170 about. UD3P should only be about $130 on newegg.

Yeah, when did socket 478 finally EOL? It was waaay after LGA775 debuted IIRC.

Ya the P5N-E SLI should max out at 350-375FSB not giving much room for 45nm penryn overclocking. P35 boards hardly do much better than 425-430.

In that case if one has to consider getting a P45 S775 motherboard and a $170 Q9550 from MC, then staying with S775 is a complete waste of time. You can get a Ggiabyte UD2 and $160 Core i5 750 from MC, which is even cheaper and faster.

Wow that's surprising and contrary to what I read. I didn't' know the 650 chipset could clock that high on 45nm quads...

Good to know.

lucky you, vcore seems a bit high though! decent OC though!
