This also brings up the question of where is CSS 2? That game hasn't really been updated in years, while other ones have. Hell even dods(which i love) has gotten more updates and it's far less popular.

How about a game where one plays Confederate and Union vampires fighting a secret underground war in modern New Orleans. Each side can have specific animal companions, like polar bears infected with lycanthropy.

Perfect! And implement a handy matchmaking system so you don't have to use those pesky dedicated servers!

No, they're pieces of shit that any half-assed mod team could have pushed out the door in 4 months.

L4D1 is amusing, certainly not a piece of shit, but yes... a semi-competent mod team could have made it in a few months. ZombieMod+ (while a totally different kind of zombie mod) is more fun, at least for me.

I don't see how the idea that they didn't require a lot of work to make is a downside; that just speaks to the originality/addictiveness of the gameplay. Portal was the same... I'm sure it didn't take very long to make compared to other games, but it was very well received.

Naturally enough, you're in the (rather small) minority when you call the games pieces of shit. I have both and haven't played them a ton, but they're both a lot of fun for me; different strokes for different folks I guess.

If it didn't take them a lot of time to make, and they're making a fortune off of it, where the hell is Episode 3? Are they doing any development of their own, besides selling us a repackaged version of the same game? Or are they sitting on their butts watching the money roll in? These Half Life episodes were supposed to allow them to push out more content in less time, not less content in more time, which is what we've gotten. That's why (some) people are pissed

Portal was the same... I'm sure it didn't take very long to make compared to other games, but it was very well received.

Portal was actually the senior project of a group of students at DigiPen in Seattle. A valve employee saw their work and set up a meeting with Gabe Newell. Newell liked it enough that he hired them in 15 minutes and gave them 2 years to polish and refine the idea. The only person they added to the team was the writer who came up with GLaDOS. So yes, it took quite a while to make, 3 years at a minimum.

I must be in that same minority....I found L4d average at best. Probably the worst game purchase I've made in recent years if not all time.

You must not have purchased very many games if L4D was your worst purchase of all time.

Actually at age 43 I've purchased hundreds if not thousands of games. To each his own but to me the game is very shallow and grows old quickly.

The guys I normally game with love it and L4D2, I don't see it. I think some of it has to do with burnout with shooter games...I didn't care all that much for MW either. Small maps, no vehicles....etc

Ok. Episodic content was said to be HL3. Valve them selves have said that the three games together were their way of releasing HL3 piece at a time in a way that would make them more affordable and in a way where they would release more frequently. So in essence, HL3 is a $60 game (@3x$19.99?), built on yester-years technology from half a decade ago, and is taking just as long to come out after the release of its predecessor from the first game in the series. Am i the only one that feels like I've been lied to by Valve about this whole thing?

They are probably gonna do a Orange Box type of deal with HL:EP3. It will contain EP3,CSS:2(or w/e it will be called)and Portal 2, at least thats what I think but what do I know right :)

Stickied on the official STEAM forums:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=735427&highlight=ep3

August 12th, 2009: Gabe Newell explains in a SteamCast podcast interview that he has nothing to discuss of Ep3 for the time being. He says right now the Valve team is in an experimental stage of game development. Still no ETA for Episode 3.

[As of January 2010: No info yet]

Can you say.. "Half-Life FOREVER [in development"? :D
Wait, I thought Digital Polyphone hired George Broussard... Now it's ValvE that hired him?

Why do people think we're due for a totally new CS? They put out one every generation right now, and we're still in the HL2 generation. I doubt we'll see another one until we catch wind of a HL3 15 years from now.

Yup and it will be a pure graphical update. They're not going to change the gameplay nor should they.

Because it's basically 6 years old now, and has not had an engine update since 2008, while I think most other games (at least popular ones) have been updated to the latest orange box one. Only thing they've done to it is patch little things here and there.

Kind of like Valve decided they should only support one highly popular fps game, and that went from Counter-strike over to TF2. TF2 is fine, but I don't fine it appealing and would prefer to see an updated CSS.

Those of you waiting on EP3 should just hang up your hats for awhile. Gabe hasn't yet figured out a way to sell us the original HL2 again. Once he does they'll announce the "green box" with EP3 for another $50.
