Yeah, that's why I started this thread. Modern games have amazing graphics etc, but they don't hold my attention anything like simple games like this.

Anyone here played Peggle? Most ridiculously simple game, but had me hooked for about a month lol!

Another vertical scroller I used to play a few years ago was DemonStar, that's pretty good.

I have Demonstar too. It was pretty good, but its predecessor, Raptor, was better. Everything seemed to move at about half the speed in Demonstar, both you and the enemy ships.

Starscape is pretty fun. It probably won't wow you with the graphics though, but it is a semi recent title.

It looks reasonable but on a 42" HDTV, I do feel an "urgh" on the occaision I have a breather from the action.

Going to purchase Gold now.
I'm sorry but have you actually played the game?
The only reason I'm curious is its 2D and I have absolutely no freaking clue why you would be asking about anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering.

Also, just a little tip: I know the 16 year old at Best Buy seems like he knows everything, but if he did he probably wouldnt be working at Best Buy.
What you believe is HIGH DEFINITION TELEVISION is about 3 or 4 generations behind the average computer monitor.
And a game like this was meant to be played in casual sessions at your desk anyway. Its not Doom 3 or Crysis, its a cheap little shooter.

WOW! That felt great, getting my vent.

Im glad you enjoyed your rant.

It was a simple question. There was no need for that outburst.

You did not need to ask whether I haved played the game or not. It was rather obvious given the fact that I am purchasing the game and have requests for any graphical tweaks that may be available.

Also, believe it or not but there are quite a few people who prefer an HDTV set over a monitor usually for the sheer size. Running a game on a 42" monitor at 1920x1080 is rather beautiful, take X3: Reunion for an example.

Now thats over with...

I am having a problem with my Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2. I am able to set N S E and W but I do not seem to be able to set NE NW SE and SW through the Logitech Gaming Software.

Are there any suggestions?

I've been discussing with a friend about bringing back some games like the old classics.
One I really like is 1942.

If he decides to give the project the green light were going to make a version of a game like 1942 using all the latest hardware.

He is currently working on a gauntlet clone that uses dx9 and allows multiplayer over the net.

Those old games are simple compared to current games, but I think thats what made them so much fun.

I spend a lot of time on gametap as well.
Great place to play some of the classics.

I thought you could just map the 4 directions and when you press the diagonal in between them the pad will send a signal that you are pressing two directions at once, the horozontal and vertical on either side of it. That should tell the game you wanna go in that diagonal direction.

I needed to map NE, NW, SE, SW as Commands where the Command was "Press Down Arrow" and "Press Left Arrow", with no Release XYZ Arrow.

I think the Joypad has 8 triggers rather than just treating the diagonals as a combination of ttwo buttons. This would make sense if Joypads could possibly be affected by the "you are pressing too many buttons at once" syndrome that affects some keyboards.

Joystick devices havent had that problem since the gameport days.
Since I can only assume you have a USB controller, I promise thats not the issue.

Since you asked for a suggestion I would try ignoring the special Logitech software and just use the Game Device in Control Panel.

I found the workaround via the Logitech software. Also, I did mention the joypad model I was using so no guess work required.
