Any MMORPGs where everything is tradeable?

Hey all,

I've a simple question, is there an MMORPG out there where everything is tradeable? The only example I recall is Firiona Vie's server on Everquest 1.

I don't care if items bind to your toon once equipped, but I'd just like to play a game where when you check the bazaar, trader channel, auction hours, etc... you can see ALL items and not just 10% of the tradeable junk that is available out there with the other 90% being no-trade. I never understood why companies make everything bind on pick up when all it creates is a big auction market in channels for looting rights to drops.

Anything like this around? As to where I'm coming from, this is because my playtime is extremely limited (a couple of hours a week) so in Eq2 where I played for ~4 years I could no longer find time to do anything except craft and make money only to see 0 items in the broker I could buy. So basically, I made money... crafted more stuff, made more money, etc... but never got better gear as I did not have time to instance and raid. And since crafted items in Eq2 were basically the equivalency of trash loot, well there was little point in makine 90% of the stuff.

Thanks

I haven't played a LOT of different games, but I have never seen an MMO where the vast majority of equipment items was NOT tradeable. Usually you cannot trade quest rewards or special (unique) items, but otherwise everything else can be traded to other players in every online game I have tried.

I'm not sure if you're going to find an MMO out there where you can simply buy gear that will keep you competitive. Perhaps with EVE, though? I mean, you passively train any skill you want in real time and beyond that all you need to do is buy ships/fits. So you could essentially only log in a few hours a week to use the market and queue up more skills to train while you're not playing. That's one of the things I liked about EVE, you character could get good (skill wise) without having to plunge hours upon hours into it trying to get instance drops.

Might want to look into Star Wars Galaxies, though I don't know where they stand, if loot is better than crafted items.

Its a little bit older but Ultima Online, everything is trade able even after to equip it. There are tons of player vendors with lots and lots of equipment for sale.

Eve might work but I prefer fantasy'ish. Ultima is too old....

Fardringle, in most games now, everything higher end from instances, raids, etc... it's all no drop so unless you take the hours to do them, you can't get those items.

Any other ideas?

Best MMO, IMO. No levels or "soulbound" items (or instances for that matter).

Final Fantasy 11 (FFXI) is not so bad. There are a few Bind on Acquire items but not that many which means theres a lot thats trade-able.

No question in my mind. But...that was before they split the world into felucca and trammel.

Is Ultima online still active and supported? I thought they shut down a long time ago? I was thinking just going to Firiona Vie on Eq1... mercernaries make it easier to solo since you can 'rent' yourself a tank or healer but maybe Ultima could be fun?

If everything is tradable it just means every f*cking moron with cash is walking around with top equipment. By needing to get some items yourself the worst players won't get the best equipment easily.

in UO there is not really any such thing as top equipment. Even the most rare magical weapons were only marginally better than generic, player-made ones. And no one risked using such magical weapons, because they would break if used too much, and if you die you get looted anyway.

This is what made UO so great and distinctive. There was no level grind, and no equipment grind. It only took a matter of hours to skill up the necessary adventuring skills. The rest of the time was spent exploring, trading, or PK'ing.

Oh man I remember playing ultima online! I loved it when some one committed a crime in town, the guards come slay the offender then there was a huge rush to loot the corpse!

Some of us with jobs and a family have more money than time.

QFT. I always find it funny how those who can play 7-8 hours a day insult those of us with little play time. I'm happy playing an hour or two a week and more importantly, my girlfriend is happy I only play an hour or two a week- because if I played 7-8 a day and got all the items myself, she would be long gone.

In college I could play WoW like a full time job. Now I would much prefer if MMO's would let you buy gear on the developer's web site.

I also work and therefor also do not play that much. But I prefer players who spent months gathering their equipment and know what they are doing to someone who bought everything, hardly knows how to play at all because he's only been in the game for a few hours at most in total, and thinks he's the best player around because of his equipment.

Whether it's a priest who is too busy ninja looting to actually heal people, a tank who attacks too large groups or doesnt keep the target's attention, or a DDer who keeps attacking everything in sight and then complains when he (and everyone near him) dies to his stupidity, blaming it on everyone else.

If you buy everything and can play well at the same time, more power to you. If you cannot play at a decent level, please stick to WoW.

Amen.

I've "lost" most of my WoW friends because they're too busy raiding to spend time "having fun" with me. Now that I'm not playing several hours a day, I'm apparently not in game enough to be around when they're not in raids. On the other hand, my girlfriend is bugging me about getting engaged more than ever before now. :p

I think the soulbound item system is pure crap. Sure, I don't want to see every player with a fat wallet running around with godly items, but in the same respect, why punish the casual players so much? Add randomly-spawning outdoor bosses that are designed to be fought by a single player (and perhaps others intended for 2, 3, and 5 players), and make them drop loot that's on par with various end-game raids. Something like that would at least help the issue.

Diablo, Diablo II, and Asheron's Call (original) had the best item systems. I really hope Diablo III lives up to its name, because that's where I'll be going.
