I have a quick question..

My daughter is taking antibiotics...Amoxacylin (sp?) Its in liquid form. She wont take it plain so I mixed it in with her milk, then I microwaved the bottle for a short period, tested it and gave it to her. (Shes over 2 years old.) Did the microwaving effect the antibiotics..I know I shoulda mixed it in AFTER I heated up, but I was wondering if it hurt the effectiveness of the AB's?

ahhh...thanks for the info guys...and yes..its for an ear infection and a sinus infection.

I just saw this article posted on Yahoo about how they are gonna stop treating minor ear infections with anti-biotics.

Link

but she already started it and if I stop now...the whole point of would have been missed (weakening the infection, then letting it come back, immune.)

Since the formula was only warmed, I strongly suspect the antibiotic would remain stable.

The human body warms up medications to 98.6 or so pretty quickly. I know of no medication that should be administered cold

Many medications should be kept cool or refrigerated prior to administration.

BTW, I'm a professional, and have admisistered ~ a freaking gallon of amoxillin. You may have reduced the effectiveness by a single digit percentage point or 2, absolutely nothing to worry about.

Just keep in mind that if she develops multiple ear infections, get pushy & have the tubes placed to prevent hearing loss.

After reading the Yahoo article, I see this becoming nearly a clinic procedure rather than an operating room procedure in the very near future.

Yah, this is her first time with any kind of infection and first time taking anti-biotics....first ear infection and shes 26 months old so hopefully this won't become routine.
