I found a dusty copy on a shelf ... always fun to find a $1900 piece of software just laying around 😎

In any case, what does '#1' mean in the result of a Solve[] call? I tried to solve a symbolic equation, and the result contains many instances of the form #1^n where n is 2, 4, or 11

i couldhelp you but that would invlve reinstalling it. I do have teh mathmatica 4 bible (PDF) i beleive I can get that to you if you want it. it might help.

Ive been useing Maple lately. a lil more frendly IMO

I've got the dictionary size mathematica manual. The only thing it says about the '#' symbol is with regards to pure functions which doesn't seem relavent here.
Where can I get that "Mathematica Bible"?

A co-worker has MathCAD which uses Maple. The interface seems nicer, but the symbolic manipulator is weaker in some examples we've played with.

you can get it from My ftp once i make sure i have it. i got it from a friend. dont know where he got it. if i printed it out it would be liek an encylopedia also i beleive
