Any malicious internet activity going on today?

ZoneAlarm alert report ;

The firewall has blocked Internet access to your computer (ICMP Unreachable) from 0.0.0.0.

Occurred: 4 times between 3/4/03 1:45:00 PM and 3/4/03 1:45:20 PM

0.0.0.0 ?<---- That's very odd don't you think ?

Do you have any idea how normal that is. Basically this is how the average 'hacker' works. He gets a range of ips, usually a million, and runs a port scanner on them, which tests for vulernabilities in any internet server running (they most like IIS boxes because they are so easy to break into). The program scans the range and tells them which boxes are vulnerable to which exploits (usually scripts). Then they proceed to try the scripts on each machine that it worked on.

Basically, nothing is wrong or abnormal and your data is not about to be compromised.

You've been here since Dec 2001 and you don't know that already?

😕

I'm puzzled by this myself 😉

It is an oddly worded question. There is always malicious internet activity. Is there something new that hasn't been happening all day everyday? I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary. I last reviewed my IDS logs at 10:00 this morning and it was the usual parade bot and skiddie attacks....

I've been hit 340 times between 8:39 AM and 11:54 AM. :|
The firewall has blocked Internet access to your computer (TCP Port 1214) from (lots of IP addresses and ports)

ZoneAlarm prevented a remote computer from connecting to port 1214 on your computer. If you are using the Kazaa file sharing program, this connection attempt was probably another Kazaa user looking for shared files on your computer. If you are not using Kazaa, the alert might have been caused by a port scan.
Might have???... :Q

Also, from Norton's Latest Threats:

VBS.Krim.E@mm
Damage: Medium
Distribution: High

VBS.Krim.E@mm is a variant of the VBS.Krim@mm worm. It sends itself to all the contacts in the Microsoft Outlook Address Book. When VBS.Krim.E@mm is run, a file created by the worm (Vbs.vbs) will display a message containing the Web site address, http://www.newmafiamirko.cjb.net.

W32.Yaha.P@mm
Damage: Medium
Distribution: High

W32.Yaha.P@mm uses its own SMTP engine to email itself to all the contacts in the Windows Address Book, MSN Messenger, .NET Messenger, Yahoo Pager, and all the files whose extensions contain the letters HT. The email message has a randomly chosen subject line, message, and attachment. The attachment will have either a .exe or .scr file extension.

I keep Tiny version 2, I don't like the new version, I want it tiny and simple. It does its job, I don't bother looking at the logs, and haven't had any problems. ZoneAlarm however, I have had problems with someone getting around it. I don't know why they would bother wasting that time going around it, but I feel bad for them if they are losers with nothing else to do but spend that time getting into home systems with little/no usable info/files for them..

i dont have a firewall or anything of the sort on my computer, cuase i dont really have anything that i really care about on my computer. is there any reason that i should get one, whats the chance of someone hacking into my machine?
