Any luck for a USB modem 4 Slackware 8 ??

If anyone manage to setup a usb mobem with Slackware 8 please post some info. I tried the linux howto files but the modem is not detected, not powered, nothing . .dead !! !

What happens when you try to connect to the port the modem is on?

The thing is that I cannot power up the modem...is host powered....and no luck...I tried many different versions of kernels no luck..
modem just doesn't responce...well sure cause its not powered....how can I power it up ?
