@ shrewdgamer

Tell me exactly what Motherboard, CPU and Power Supply you are using now.

If you dont know about the motherboard and CPU download CPUz and find the information and tell us. Also if you dont know your Power Supply open the PC case and tell us the Model.

@AtenRa

Don't know. It is my brother's computer with Windows XP 64-bit, when I try to install CPUz it is showing that I need administrator permission or something like that.

If it's your brother's PC and he won't let you be an admin, don't go upgrading it!

Ok here are the details. I used CPUz's zip version to find this.

CPU: i3 540
Motherboard: DH55PJ

Get a discrete video card. If your PSU will not support it then get a new PSU. Once you have those you will get decent gaming performance. You can also upgrade the cpu to an i5-750 or i5-760 or i5-750S. You should be able to find one of those for under $100 used. I currently use an i5-750 and it is still a very capable processor. It is still a better value than anything you can buy new for under $100.

AMD Jaguar performance with discrete graphics card (dGPU).

• AMD A6-5200 2.0GHz QuadCore "Jaguar" 25W TDP, PCIe x16 2.0 @ x4
• AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) EightCore "PileDriver" 125W TDP,
PCIe x16 2.0
- - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2GB GDDR5
- - 8 GB G.Skill Trident 2400MHz @ 1600MHz (2x4GB)

Aliens vs Predator:
HIGH / ULTRA HIGH, AA 4x AF 16x, 1920x1080
• AMD FX-8350 + GTX 680: 59.2 FPS
• AMD A6-5200 + GTX 680: 58.9 FPS

Tomb Raider: Ultimate AA FXAA AF 16x, 1920x1080
• AMD FX-8350 + GTX 680: 54.3 FPS
• AMD A6-5200 + GTX 680: 53.1 FPS

now try a real game situation, not GPU benchmarks...

to consider Kabini as desktop gaming CPU makes no sense,

Indeed. The OP does not sound very knowledgable about PCs anyway. Why would one want to mislead him into getting Kabini for a desktop PC when what he has would be better in most games with only a discrete card added.

Based on this comment I don't think he should really be attempting to upgrade the system, he will probably break something.

Jaguar is dog slow. Pentiums and Celerons are cut-down i3's. Your i3 is considerably faster, those choices would be (mostly) a downgrade. Integrated graphics are relatively slow too. Any modern video card will beat any and all integrated solutions.

You should add a discrete card to your i3 system, and if you're still not happy with performance, upgrade to an i5. Please ask in the video card section before buying anything.

Instead of upgrading my brother's PC. Can I get a Haswell i3 and it'll beat the Jaguar 8 core? Should I wait till DDR4 becomes available?

DDR4 is several years out for desktop systems. Haswell is orders of magnitude better than Jaguar for gaming - Jaguar is probably one of the *worst* new chips you can buy if you game. I'd wager the consoles only have them for cost reasons. Even a Haswell dual will be vastly better.

Stop talking about CPUs. You dont need a new CPU.
Buy a graphics card and install it. Graphics card. You need a graphics card.

Find out how many watts the power supply supplies. Look on the side of the power supply inside of the computer and it will tell you.

If you get a graphics card and install it into your computer it will be a lot faster at gaming, many times faster. The graphics that you have are very slow. You need to upgrade your graphics card. But we need to know how many watts your power supply has so we can help you choose a graphics card that will not use too much power. If you don't have enough power, you might have to buy a power supply. You can get power supplies that supply 500-600 watts for $50 and it will last you a long time.

If you really can't add a video card to your current PC, at least tell us what your budget it.

If it's really low, you should get an AMD A8 or A10 processor, which has relatively powerful integrated graphics.
