any logitech harmony 1 owners here?

thinking about taking the plunge and getting one, i have directv and nice stereo setup to go with it. is it worth getting?

Harmony One is pretty overkill for most people...I have an 880 and a 550 and love them to death though...heard the One is horrendous on battery life too

I have had three of them. One for my main theater, one for the living room and one that i used to set up my parent's place.

They are the best remote out there. Do you "need" one? Hell if I know, but if you want one, go for it.

I've had older harmony's also, and its a lot better. The rechargeable base is where it lives so i've never had a problem with the batteries.

I love my Harmony One. I think they put out an even better "replacement", but that's even better for everyone since that makes the One cheaper.

I never had an issue with battery life. Maybe because I understood the battery was going to run down with all the stuff the One can do (I bet those tablet-style models are horrendous indeed). I never timed it, but with regular use I'd argue a week should be expected. For a remote with batteries you never replace, I can't complain when I'm simply putting it into the charging cradle every few days or once a week.

It would be my remote of choice if I replaced my harmony 880. I really like the general methodology of harmony remotes. That said, the 880 and 890 have notorious issues with button responsiveness of the silver ring over time. There are videos/articles online showing how to fix them but I would steer clear of those. The Harmony One doesn't seem to have the same style buttons so it is probably ok.

I have had 659's and now have all 700's. Harmony remotes rock, but expect to spend some significant time getting them set up just right.

I have a Harmony One. It's awesome. It occasionally randomly doesn't send the request for 15-20 seconds... happens maybe once every three months, so I don't much care. I drop it in the charging base when I go to work, at least once a week. I sure as hell wouldn't want to go back to using 4 different remotes constantly.

So... I've only had the One. Is there something different about it than the 700, that makes it easier to program? I've read several times that it takes work to get them set up right, but it only took me a few minutes. I have a tv, ps3, directv, and receiver. It "just worked".

Does the battery rapidly degrade or something? Got a One a couple months ago, wouldn't say I used it a ton, but a fair amount and it lasted around 5-6 weeks. Only on my 1st recharge now. Been at least a couple weeks and I've been using it a lot more, still battery is at 50%.

Did an initial charge of 8+ hours before use, then only will recharge it when it reaches critical.

Do you use it every day?

It all depends on how detailed you want your setup to be. I want to be able to do everything without ever having to find to original remote. Every so often something comes up and I need to add or reprogram something to account for it.

Things like turning on/off closed captioning and dealing with PIP took some time to get right.

It may also be that I am kinda anal about such things.

I have a Harmony One and an 880. A dock and rechargeable batteries is a must. It has made life so much easier for my parents and for me. I like to put it back in its dock after using it, so I don't see any battery problems.

I have been since the 1st recharge. Now that I have me home theater seats, I've been gaming on the plasma daily, also turning on and off the sound system and portable A/C I have in there. Initial charge there was probably a week or so I didn't use it.

Makes sense. It might also have a lot to do with the particular equipment you own. Perhaps I just got lucky.

I have one. You should get one. It's great.

Never had an issue with battery life and have been using it for nearly 2 years now.

i really like the one. it beats the hell out of the 880 i had, the battery life is fine, and they redesigned the charger so that it actually charges. my only gripe is shaky compatibility with imon-based pc receivers.

I've had one for around 2 years now. No complaints at all - it does what you'd expect it to.

I haven't had any problem with battery life.

I have the 880 and rarely use it... I don't use cable any longer, just Netflix, Hulu, etc. I use it to turn on my amp/tv and that is about it, otherwise I use my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. BUT if I were to give it a review, I love it compared to conventional remotes, and it just "works"
