So when I bought my foreclosure the keys to the front doors were of course not provided. I would like to change out my lock cylinders and or re-key the locks. As the lock type is mortise and these can be quite expensive to replace entirely apparently. I have the lock cylinders out and they are 1 1/8th inch cylinders with a cloverleaf(ugh) cam.

It seems that anything with a cloverleaf cam is way more expensive to replace. For instance these are way cheap for the pair:

Is there any interchangeability within cams? Since I don't have the existing key is it going to be a big deal to re-key these things? I don't feel like getting charged $250 dollars to have my locks re-keyed if there is an easier/cheaper way.

Any recommendations?

Just have them re-keyed.

Pay the locksmith the basic service call charge and about $10 per key opening. (some locks take a key on both sides...get charged double)

Should be under $100.

That's kinda what it looks like I should do...

Lowe's and places like that can rekey for typically cheaper, but all aren't really locksmiths. They have basic skills, but almost always require the original keys to rekey the locks. I think they charged me a mere $5/lock.

$10/lock isn't bad at all....it's what they charge around here. A buddy of mine just had his new house rekeyed for $85 total.
