gl getting a sus a8n sli32 board. Get something other than the KB. its trash. Do you really need to look down at the keyboard while playing?

That CPU is pretty bloody expensive. The 4400+ is almost just as good, and costs considerably less.

A8N-SLI32 is pointless unless you're running SLI. You planning on getting another video-card later?

I would go with the G7 mouse, rather than the G5.

RoD

Yeah i am intending on getting a 2nd gfx card, but it wont be for a while, not untill the prices drop. Mind is set on the keyboard - i do alot of stuff with my comp other than gaming so i think that the screen might come in handy if the programming for it gets off the ground. G5 was a typo - i am getting the G7.

The basics like mobo, pcu, and ram are solid choices. The rest is a matter of personal preference. No right or wrong to it really. It should serve you well.

i'd change the RAM to OCZ Platnium Rev.2 due to its lower timings, has been benchmarked to be better.

as for the cables, i like AC ryan better but those will work.

Don't forget the aftermarket case fans for your case.

can i ask for your reason behind choosing Zalman CNPS9500 LED as your heatsink/fan? it doesn't cool a WHOLE lot more than others..

What do you mean by the "aftermarket fans for my case". The case already comes with 2x 120mm and 2x92mm?? what more would i need??

I like the 9500 coz of the orientation, i prefer it over the older zalmans that lay flat (if u wanna but it like that) also it light up blue which goes with the blue neons that come with the fan controller + the case has 2x blue LED fans. I Think its a good choice.

Thanks

i mean by that, high performance fans, silent fans, Temp-controlling fans, mor LED fans... the case may come with those but you might find them being too loud or not supplying enough air..

I'd buy any hard drives but Maxtor. If you don't like losing all your stuff when they fail and having to spend more $ on new drives, buy a better brand of HD. Seriously, you'll thank me for buying Seagate instead!

Ditto on the seagate 5 year warranty. =)

The new Hitachi Drives are pretty solid as an alternative depending on price.

I'm not familiar with that PSU so if it were me I'd go with Antec or PC Power & Cooling or Enermax etc.

I'd also go with a different model of X-FI soundcard because the Music version doesn't have X-Ram or whatever that silly marketing name is. Anyhow it's supposed to boost game performance more.

Antistatic wrist bands are cute lol...seriously I've never used one and never will.

Other things look good to me, but I do like OCZ memory more even though it's a bit steeper in price.

I wasnt aware of the problems with the Maxtor hard drives =S. The only thing is i cant seem to find any SATA II 250/300GB seagate hard drives which was my reason for choosing the maxtor drives. Does anybody have any links to places in the UK selling seagate 250/300GB SATA II's???

Ive heard very good reviews about the PSU, and its modular.

I need to build this computer within the next 2 weeks so i cant keep waiting on new technology really.

Thanks
Tiger69.

I'd get less than $200 2 gigs of ram, Opteron 165/170 and overclock, 2x7800GTs instead of 4800+ and 1 7800GTX and expect to get a 2nd one later. Better yet, wait for R580 if you are going to spend $450 on a graphics card. If you do not intend to overclock, I'd go with 4200+ model or something along those lines since cpu speed practically doesn't matter for gaming when looking at high-end cpus. The heatsink is rather expensive given that $40 Arctic Freezer Pro outperforms it.

Good build. Here are my remarks:

- mobo: I'd rather choose the A8N-SLI Premium because the A8N32 doesn't really offer any tangible performance boost, and the Premium is also passively cooled, plus it's cheaper and widely available; oh, and it offers more space between the PCI-E slots (better for SLI air circulation);

- CPU: damn expensive, you might want X2 4400+ or even 3800+ and OC it a bit; these CPUs usually have a good overclocking headroom and are much cheaper than the top of the line model; you won't notice the difference anyway since even you will be GPU-limited in most cases;

- video card: I definitely would NOT recommend a 512 MB GTX; they are already hardly available - when G71 comes out, the GTX 512 may be discontinued officially (though tbh, it ALREADY seems discontinued 😛) which means you might end up with one card; I recommend either 7800 GT SLI or waiting for G71;

- sound card: perfect choice IMO, the X-RAM is just marketing...

- HDDs: I don't like Maxtors but that's just me; I'd choose Seagates or WD Caviars 250 GB SATA II 16 MB (WD2500KS);

- case: I don't like Thermaltakes because my definition of silence always seems far from theirs;

- mouse: I'd grab the MX518 because it seems to have a more reliable sensor (optical) in terms of operation on dark/rougher pads, it has more buttons and a better scroll wheel; plus it's cheaper; gamers rarely choose wireless mice due to high weight, some latency and the need to charge - if you BADLY want a G-mouse, grab the G5;

- keyboard: well, the G15 is HUGE, and the programmable keys + LCD it offers are both useless IMO (and I'm quite a heavy gamer), I'd get something simpler and cheaper instead.

hey darXoul thanks for ur reply. I have now changed my choice to the X2 4400 after a few people mentioned it. I have changed my primary 80GB maxtor to a 74GB raptor and im looking for maybe a seagate 250/300GB SATA II. My mind is set on the case, mouse and keyboard =D

As for the Video card WHAT SHOULD I DO!! i wasnt aware of what u have just said and after researching the net this g71 is miles better than the 7800GTX, i read that it has reached 800MHz??? compared with the 580MHz of the 7800GTX. But then thing is i need to build this system between the 13th jan and the 23rd of jan. Do you have any release dates for the g71 and if not have u any ideas as to what i should do... i cant run the comp with out a gfx card and i dont wanna go for 2x GT's??

Please help.
Thx.

ok the first thing you should do is NOT get the raptor. new 7200 rpm hard drives have caught up in performance with the 10k rpm raptor. if you truly want a fast primary drive, get SCSI or go with a Western Digital 16mb cache drive (the one darXoul recommended for you). if you want to wait for the g71 and need something until then, you could get a cheap card (6800gs) or a cheaper one (x700 or 6800nu) until it comes out then sell your temporary card. good luck with your build. i like how included EVERYTHING. makes it look like you're really ready for it`

I'm in a very similar situation to you in terms of video card choice. I don't like ATI so I'm not interested in their cards (if someone tries to flame me for that, don't bother, I'm fireproof). In other words, I'm not waiting for any R5xx chip.

What options do we have?

1. The ASUS 7800 GT Dual (available now on Newegg for $879) - world's fastest video card for sure but very expensive, questionable in terms of driver maturity, to be dethroned very soon anyway. In other words, not a good choice IMO.

2. The infamous GTX 512. Not really available, if I'm correct, it's out of stock everywhere. A phantom card right now ($749), more than likely a thing of the past in a few weeks. I strongly advise against getting one, even if somehow you manage to grab one of them. SLI would also be severely overpriced, plus G71 SLI will make it pale, I guess.

3. Two 7800 GTX's in SLI. Too expensive IMO, given the performance. Around 920 bucks, and not a whole lot faster than GTs, especially if overclocked. I wouldn't get them.

4. One 7800 GTX. Good enough for most games but again, the difference between this one and 7800 GT ain't spectacular. You could possibly grab one now and add another for SLI once G71 comes out and causes a possible price drop. For now though, one of them would not be strong enough to run some games at really high settings, like the infamous hardware buster F.E.A.R. 😉

6. One 7800 GT. Better price than GTX but again - while it's an excellent card, it might not satisfy a very demanding gamer.

7. 7800 GT SLI. Best choice IMO, unless you want to wait for G71. Great performance (better than GTX 512 and only a bit slower than GTX SLI), around 600 bucks, all the latest features. SLI seems mature and if my info is right, the vsync issue has been fixed. Not the quietest setup though - just make sure not to grab the ASUS blue LED edition cards since they howl like jet engines in 3D. I wanted to get them until I heard one.

G71 should be reviewed/benchmarked still this month, or maybe in February. Available probably until the end of March at the latest but who knows... Anyway, it's gonna be released soon but I'm pretty sure you won't get one until Jan 23.

If you can't wait and price is no issue, maybe grab the best GTX you can get for the money now... I seriously don't know. It's not easy 🙂 I'm building my comp as well and I guess I will either wait for G71 or grab two GTs. The only two viable solutions IMHO, of course unless you want to get a temporary card and sell it in 1-3 months, as alimoalem suggested above. But of course, if Jan 23 means "case closed, no more buying/selling", I persistently recommend GT SLI 🙂

Lol now im really torn... Its pretty impossible to stay ontop of advancing technology, but if these cards are cracked up to be like you say then maybe a temp card will be a good idea. The only thing is - if i was to get a GTX 512, if it gets discontinued will that make it really hard for me to try and sell it once the g71 comes out?? Ugh i hate dilemmas. Thanks for the array of options tho =D

No idea... You might be able to sell it as a collector's item but as a video card, I really wouldn't buy it once the G71 comes out - unless you offer it at a great price. I suppose the G71 won't be as "elitist" as the GTX 512 - it should be widely available and probably also cheaper, not even mentioning the higher performance. It won't be a bargain though - with a heatpipe + fan huge, dual slot cooling system and 512 megs of RAM (though I doubt it will be the superfast 1.1 ns 1.7 GHz memory from Samsung) it will be quite a pricy toy 🙂

If a temp card is no problem for you, this might be the perfect option. Heck, if you have the cash, you could even buy a 7800 GT as temp card. Their price shouldn't be severely affected by G71's release, and once this beast comes out, you could even decide whether to replace the GT with Ultra or buy another one for SLI. Yea, this may be a decent idea...

hey darXoul... sorry for not getting back sooner. i was pondering this gfx card thing all day 2 day and i was want ur opionion on what ive came up with, so here goes:

Go for an SLI setup with 2x 7800GT's.. About £20 cheaper than 1x GTX 512MB and more widely available =) If what you say is right, then when this g71 comes out and the gtx is laid to rest then the price of one is gonna plummet considerably and if its discontinued then it means that i wont have the option to SLI. Whereas if i have the GT's well then they are already somewhat reasonably priced meaning they wont go down as much as the GTX 512 will. %-6 months down the line and the g71 is released which blows everything outta the water and if its here to stay then maybe ill think of selling the GT's and getting a single g71 and SLI'ing that in the future??

So what do u think m8?
Cheers.
