We pretty much know what the next iPhone will look like with the pic below.
Same width, just longer. Probably will add another row of icons.

I can tell you I hated Apple back them.
Hated everything about them. I didn't own 1 Apple product.
I thought their iPhone up to the 3GS was meh.(after all I had my HD2).
Everything changed when the iPhone 4 came out end of June 2010.
I was traveling back to Vietnam and a friend asked me to get a IP4 for him.
I bought one for him first and I instantly fell in love with it.
At the time, there was nothing that came close to the IP4.
Android was still single core and sluggish.
I got an IP4 for myself and I was on the Apple bandwagon.
Then came the Macbook Air and a slew of buying iPhones left and right, unlocking them and selling them.
A year later I anxiously await the so called iPhone 5.
Rumors and mockups got me really excited. Bigger screen here we come.
Then the 4s came out. Big Blahhhhhh............I skipped it.
So my wife got the iPhone 4 and I got myself a GSII.
My she got tired of the IP4 and took my GSII.
I later got myself a One S waiting for the next best thing.

So I eagerly await for the IP5.
I mean it must have a bigger screen right.
New fantastic design.
Fuck, Apple engineering had 2 yrs to come up with something new.
Now it becomes more and more apparent that the PIC below if the new iPhone 5.
WTF is that ??? By keeping the width the same and making it longer ??
Same damm design ?? Are you shitting me ??
Its a great looking design but crap, its been 2 years already.
You got billions of dollars, design a different phone for God's sake.
Personally I would have rather they keep the same aspect ratio and made it 4" that way instead of just making it longer.
I know it will sell in record pace but I will be skipping another version of the iPhone.
Gonna jump on the WP8 wagon this time around.

I'll be getting it when the price drops, which means it'll be a long time. IMHO the iPhone's still the sexiest phone, and regardless of them not holding up to being dropped. No other phone feels as sold in my hand. Android has some pluses over the iPhone and visa versa but overall I just <3 my iPhone. If that's how the 5 looks I'm loving it, the iPhone 4's about the perfect looking phone if you ask me.

I think your expectations are unrealistic. If you look at Apples history, they usually stick with a design for years and only change it when technology has advanced to a level that allows them to implement something new.

There are enough new looking elements to please the vast numbers of people who see phones as status symbols (the iPhone 4 to 4s transition was a painful time for many Apple faithful who couldn't prove their worth without diving into the settings menu).

Please cite your sources. Or is this just one of those assumptions, like when people say 'I bought a PC because I do actual WORK on my computers.'?

Anyway, ITHURTSWHENIP is quite right, if you actually look at Apple's design history, they either iterate every year (iPods), or sit on a design for up to 4-5 years (Macs). The iPhone is somewhere inbetween those two, so for them to more or less site on a design is just fine in my opinion. They found a design that works for them, and it still looks amazing, why change it?

My sister asked me yesterday if she should get the Galaxy S3. She is iPhone user since iPhone 3G and currently using iPhone4. She has an upgrade available since the beginning of the year but has been saving it for iPhone5. But her husband got Galaxy S3 recently and she really likes the larger screen on the phone. She told me she was tired of the small screen and same icons on the screen. I told her to wait for iPhone5. Screen will be bigger and maybe the resolution will be better. I know my sister. Android will confuse her. Android is far better OS but iOS is better for non-techy people and my sister is falls into that camp. I'm waiting for iPhone5 myself. If it's mind blowing awesome, I will sign a contract with AT&T to get it for myself and the wife. I will sell my iPhone5 since I prefer my Nexus but the wife will keep and use the iPhone5. She's using Android now but I know she will be happier with the iPhone.

Debating whether or not to try and sell my wife's 4S so that she can get a 5. I know she doesn't really give a crap, but I'd like to try to get her the upgade if possible.

I will certainly be getting an iPhone 5. I much prefer measured improvements over radical redesigns with buggy software.

I don't give rats ass what the phone looks like - if the increase in usability is warranted I will upgrade

If the screen is only a minimal size bump to 3.9 or 4" then yeah, I'm done. After messing around with some SGIII's I have screen envy. I'll give up the integration with my other Apple devices it's really that much of an issue to me.

I'm skipping it, and every other phone out there, because I'm not eligible for an upgrade until July 2013.

Interesting...I have no interest in a larger screen. The phone is already bulky enough for me...I'd rather see it stay the same size and just get thinner/lighter. I honestly have nothing to complain about with my current iPhone4. It is over 2 years old now (company got it for me on release date). Still holds a charge for a full day with medium usage (lots of email/web browsing/facebook). Still relatively quick with applications. The only reason I'm going to be getting the iPhone 5 is because I'm leaving my current company and will be returning to the world where I need a personal phone again.

Everyone has a different definition of "bulky".

The SGS3 is thinner and lighter than the iPhone 4s.

I talk maybe 10 minutes a month with a phone actually to my ear. The rest of the time it's over BT in the car or over a full size handset via BT at home. When I'm using my phone an overwhelming amount of time it's reading websites, playing games, texting, apps, ect. More screen size is less pinching/zooming/scrolling for me. Plus a bigger screen for the keyboard is a plus for me. I still miss physical keyboards on my old flip phone.

By definition is heft (which the iPhone has too much from my standpoint) and size (which I feel the iphone is pretty good about...especially if they could make it thinner).

I'm in the same boat as you in terms of how I use my phone (well maybe more than 10 minutes...but I use it a lot more for other things). That being said, my main reason for not wanting the bulk (size and weight) is that I hate carrying it around in my pocket. Don't get me wrong, the form factor is light years ahead of older smartphones, but I still would like them to improve. I would be all for them offering an iPhone5 and and iPhone5+ where the "+" model just has a larger screen. That way we have a choice.

I am not an iphone user in the pure sense, I do have an iphone 4 that I use basically as an ipod touch while in the bathroom. That being said, those iphone 5 pics that have been floating around the web look good. Why should apple dramatically change the look? Really, how much more drastic can any smartphone company do right now? The only thing would be colours. I remember the ipod nano in orange, purple, blue. They should make more colors. I think the ip5 specs look good even if I am an android guy.

If that really is the design for the iPhone 5, then it'll be pretty impressive. Definitely it needs the bigger screen. Now that I'm used to my SGS3 I just can't even look at my wife's iPhone 4 screen- it's just piddly. If the 5 finally moves into this decade then my wife will definitely have one.

Every iPhone 4S owner will be lining up outside the Apple stores to buy the iPhone 4S LTE.

You have to remember that most of the time apple isn't a reactionary company. So they had 2 years, but that doesn't mean that was 2 years of looking at competitors and seeing them having bigger screens and lte.

Hey when the IP4 first came out, I thought it was by far the best looking phone by far.
I just think 2 yrs is pretty long for cell phone standard.
They kept the 3g/3gs for 2 yrs so I figure 2 yrs was enough for the IP4.
I would disagree with you guys that the IP5 looks exactly the same minus being longer.
The back has a different look to it but heck, I can make the back to look like whatever with the IP4/s now. Changing the back plate takes 1 min.
Maybe I was just expecting a new design after a disappointing same 4s.
Anyway. I'm skipping it.

BTW, I'm glad the thread have stayed civil so far.

Like vi_edit, it will depend on screen size. If it's only 4" then I may pass and go to the SG3. My biggest issue is if I switch is not being able to use some of my iPhone gadgets and won't be able to use the nice interface that my vehicle has with the iPhone.

All of my phones from now on will have to be full retail price to keep my unlimited data from Verizon. I blow through 2gb a day sometimes so I will never be able to afford limited plans. :(

Galaxy Nexus will be my phone for the next few years lol.
