Any insect and Bio majors out there?

Looks like a tick. They suck your blood and transmit diseases. Was it latched on to you? How did you remove it?
 
Do you have a bigger picture? I'll email my dad and ask him, he has a PhD in entomology. I'm not sure if he'll be able to figure it out specifically from such a small photo, but he should have some general idea. I won't get a response until sometime tomorrow though.
 
Yea it was latched onto my hip below my stomach. I just pulled it off since I did not know what it was at the time.

Definitely a tick of some sort. What part of the country are you in? Lyme Disease can be quite terrible.
 
That'll work! It does look like a tick though. If it is a tick and you pulled it off make sure you didn't rip it out and leave its pincers still in your skin.
 
You could probably see them stuck in you, but I haven't been in any places where I could get ticks in years so I forgot most of what I knew about them besides lyme disease.

Watch the place you removed it from. If you notice an increase in redness or swelling or any signs of illness (fever, nausea, etc.) over the next day or so you might need to see a doctor. Chances are you have nothing to worry about IMO, but that's no reason not to be aware.
 
I just took a 2nd high res photo of the area it was on my body. I'll upload it in a few but I think the site downsamples the image, but I can email both photos to anyone who is interested to see the detailed photos.

I got so lucky this past weekend. Ticks were everywhere. One also must have hitched a ride on my uniform while I was out in the field at Atterbury, because when I got back to the barracks, I was filling out a form and I looked down and a tick was crawling on the form. Ugh. Freaked me the hell out - never have had a tick before, somehow, even though I've been in the woods a lot.
But the main reason for being creeped out was the fact that pants had become un-bloused, and my undershirt had come untucked, on multiple occasions throughout the weekend.

Never found anything in the shower that day, and had a buddy check my back. Solid black ticks, eerily flat shaped too. Pretty sure they weren't deer ticks.

Skin bite area

This is on my front hip area, so it is hard to see from my POV and to hold the camera.

It looks like he was there awhile. It was already starting to fill up, yuk :^(

I wouldn't go to a doctor unless you have problems. In my area they tend to preemptively put you on antibiotics, and those suck. My skin's trashed from 2 courses a couple of years apart. The first set was preemptive, the second I had Lyme disease :^(
 
Only deer ticks transmit lyme disease and they're tiny. You're fine unless you see a bullseyed-patterned mark around the bite, in which case you should go to the emergency room.

It's more common through deer ticks, but you can get it from other bugs also. I suspect I got mine from a mosquito, but I don't really know. I didn't get the bulleye rash either :^/
