HDD: still Shopping around ==================== approx: $275

DVD/CDR/CDRW combo: Unknown =================== approx: $75

I need a good headset, comfortable one too and with mic.

Mobo: Im still set with MSI NEO4 Unless someone can point me to a DFI that has only ONE pci-e x16.. I dont want a SLI set up.
So if there is a DFI board, non SLI, pls pls link.

Ram - I was gonna go OCZ El Plat rev2 but found out its 2x512.. I need 2x1gigs performance Ram. Currently looking into it.. Balisitix?Cruicial...

HDD: Going Sata as recommended.. since I will be ripping alot, I would like to have my "my computer" to look as:

C: Windows, misc apps, Burning/Ripping apps, Games
D: Work Apps such as Maya, Adobe, Avid
E: Movies and Music
F: Copied movies/music or "queued" up music to burn.

since Dual core doesnt cover "read/writes" apps, that is due to its the HDD doing the work.. i will prolly end up going with a small SATA for "F" drive.. the large storage space on "D/E" partitioned and I guess raptor on C???

is that good? Unless someone tells me of a better system.

2 dvd/cd/cdr/etc etc etc combo drives.

that is all for now
total dmg im causing: 2990

Ya get MSI board, its a good board.

Get a large disk for storage like the one I said above and put games on the 10k rpm drive to speed things up.

Benq is a good dvd/cd writer.

If you really want great (I mean the best) it will probably cost $400 or so but decent ones with good sound will cost $100+

uh 80 bucks for a mouse??????

expensive ram is not totally necessary. you could get by using value ram from ocz/corsair etc.

Curently:

amd 2500 XP barton
Asus A7n8x-e deluxe mobo
Stock HSF
Raderon 9600 Pro
Soundblaster
Antec SL350 350w PSU
40 gig HDD
60gig HDD
40 external HDD
40x12x40 cd burner
cdr
2x512 generix pc3200 ddr400 ram
with a very nice looking case that costed me 15 bucks...

so this new rig is a HUGE HUGE HUGE improvement...
also im on a 15' CRT!

so going with REAL RAM i can take that over with all my new builds I tend to have every year or so.

That's horrible logic... You can't "future-proof" by getting RAM with tighter timings and more overclockability... Good manufacturers like Corsair give you a lifetime warrenty. Performance RAM doesn't affect actual performance much at all. More expensive RAM will let you overclock it more, but the Neo4 Platinum won't be able to provide that much voltage to your RAM, and you said you wouldn't be overclocking anyways... By the time you do a new build, Socket M2 will be out, and you'll need DDR2 RAM...

alright, but as I said, I might still OC later...and also I have mentioned I would do DFI if they have a non SLI board.

MSI NEO4:
AGP Slots None
PCI Express x16 1
PCI Express x1 1
PCI Slots 4
Other Slots 1 x PCI Express X 4

DFI:
AGP Slots None
PCI Express x16 2
PCI Express x1 1
PCI Slots 2
Other Slots 1x PCI Express X4

with those features listed on MSI and DFI.. I decided MSI.. but unless there is another DFI that hasnt been recommended.. pls link

if not:

can someone explain to me than the usage of:

Please use the edit function... 4 consecutive posts isn't necessary -_-; I don't have the 9NPA+ Ultra and 7800GTX myself, but I'm sure someone on this forum will be able to help. PCIe 1x and 4x really don't have much use right now. In the future, when PCI becomes extinct, PCIe's increased bandwidth will take over, and you'll see PCIe sound cards, TV tuners, etc. The MSI Neo4 Platinum's 4x slot has a notch though, so you can stick a full length PCIe 16x video card in it.

time difference, located in pg 5.. had to bump it. editing doesnt self bump. so srry.

aye

MSI - pure stock with very little OC
Epox - great stock great OC
DFI - unknown stock, pure OC

however, DFI offers alot of x1 x4 x16 and not pci which since I dont know, I dont think I want to have that mobo.
msi with 1-x16 and 1-x1 and 3 pci sounds great until I found EPOX.
they have the best of both world.

x1, x4, x16 and pci. However, the downfall in 1 post was the compatiable issue of 7800 gtx, not sure if everyone ran into this issue or not.

The MSI Neo4 Platinum can OC pretty well too... It's not crap at overclocking. The FSB goes up to like ~300ish, the VCore goes can be raised to an ample amount (like 1.6 something), and it has plenty of features. The only bad thing is that the VDimm only goes up to 2.85, but that's not that important. The MSI has more features than the EPoX, which is why I personally chose that instead.

originally i was set on the MSI until alot of perusading DFI chats.
reading AT reviews, DFI comes #1 in OC, #2 epox, but I dont see much at forum reviews on EPOX but few comments on the compatability issues.

which reminds me.. I gotta check that PSU I have listed will reach the mobo in the P180.
