Any inconspicuous way to keep ear piercings open?

I have both ears pierced, currently with matching 3/4" 10 gauge captive bead rings. Pretty simple, nothing too extreme, but it's definitely noticeable.

Pics

I hope to be interviewing for a job within the next couple weeks (gotta pick up a part time job), & although I will likely end up in a work environment in which they won't matter I would prefer to not wear them to the interview (for obvious reasons).

The last time I had them out (only 8 hours) both were sealed over & I had to force the rings back in, this time it could be 12 hours or more.

Also, I would prefer to NOT allow my piercings to heal if I end up in a part time job that doesn't allow them. I don't see this as a permanent thing & my regular full time job has virtually no dress code.

So I guess I'm really asking two questions:

1) What's a good short term way to keep the piercings open and
2) If it ends up being long term (a few months) what are my options?

Get a loop baby earing. The are very small. I haven't had mine out since '89 and every so often someone will say "I never saw that one before"

How long have they been pierced? how long were they pierced the first time you took them out?

On a side not: Mine are permanantly open.. they have been since i was 11 days old. I NEVER wear earrings either. :(

Find a comb that is close to your skin color and break of the two end teeth of it.

I had a friend who used a clear comb tooth to keep his eyebrow from closing up while he was at work.

If you can point me to a job in Oregon at the moment where I can make more than I do now, I'll take them out in a hearbeat.

I'm lucky enough to have a $30K+ a year job at 21 that has a very laid back work environment.

I could dye my hair blue with pink spots if I wanted, & nobody would bat an eye.

Given the current job market, however, I am damn lucky to even HAVE a job, let alone this one. I expect my part time job to be at least as accommodating.

In the meantime, if you think you're giving some dumbass kid a lecture (straighten your hat, pull up your pants, get a real job)... ah heck off until you have 1/2 a clue what you're talking about.

Some parents do some bizarre things.

I suppose it could be worse, but then again infant tattooes and branding are probably just around the corner.

Yeah pediatrician did it. Anyways. Infant tattoes and branding are already here. My friend does tattoes and he was telling me that atleast every 2 weeks someone asks him to tattoo their kid. He refuses and tells them to go elsewhere... unfortunately.. they do.

Ear piercing though isnt a big deal for baby girls. You cant tell I have them pierced unless i have earrings in. Last time i wore earrings was for a few hours on my wedding day..

If it's an office job, just put paper clips in. Plenty of those in an office--you'll blend right in! If somebody asks about it, that's where you keep your spares.

Wear piercing studs at night. Keep rings in at all times that you don't work (take them out in the parking lot, put them back in. After awhile, you shouldn't have any problems with them closing back up. I have several ear piercings, and keep small hoops in them 24/7, but once every year or two, I'll put the piercing studs back in for a couple weeks.

If you have had these piercings for more than a few months, and you have problems with them healing back up, then you are probably having a reaction to the metal. Do they get sore or red? I don't necessarily mean get infected, just irritated.

twinkletoes, what kind of tattoos are we talking about here? I can't imagine what kind of person would permanantly "mod" their baby like that...

Well, the last time I did it they were only a few weeks old, one was a new piercing & one had been stretched to 12 gauge. Since then I've stretched them both to 10 gauge, that was done about six weeks ago.

And no, I have not had any problems with them. None whatsoever.

And eakers - No, I don't plan to stretch them further. I just wanted something a little thicker. At 10 gauge the holes aren't very visible with the rings out, but the rings don't feel too light/flimsy.

In fact, I think lobe stretching is rather ridiculous.

I find it funny how someone can condemn one form of scarring infants and then in the next sentance condone another form that's really basically the same thing, just because his or her friends/family/social group/etc has deemed the second one more acceptable.

There's a big difference. If I get my kid AC/DC ear rings, at least she can take them out and all that's left are barely noticeable pinholes.

They're still holes. And if the only thing that matters is how noticeable it is, then I guess it's ok to put a tattoo on a baby's ass. I mean, it's not noticeable when he wears pants. At what point does the scarring become unacceptable? 1/8" sq. of scarred skin? 1/2" sq? 10 sq in? What's your cutoff point for when scarring a baby becomes a bad idea?
