Again, all I can tell you is that not once has he complained about an issue with his machine. The only time he ever called Apple was with help hooking up a scanner because he couldn't figure it out. To this day the machine is still running. I bought it from him about two months ago to give as a gift to my mom. I added 256MB of RAM, a faster hard drive, and Panther. The machine to this day has worked great, no problems at all. The machine's uptime has been 32 days without a hiccup, and believe me, if there were an issue my mom would be calling me to come over and fix it for her. I am not trying to say that there aren't problems with them, I know there are, I am just saying that with the Macs I have worked with, I have not encountered any problems.

My iPod on the other hand...haha...all kinds of problems!

3) it's free

My LCIII from 1994 still works and my dad uses it a lot for word processing. The thing is like a tank. It's a bit dusty but it doesn't lock up and gotta love that three second shutdown.

PM6100, PB1400CS, PM7200, PM7500, G4 400, G4 1.25 and an iMac DV SE. Don't tell me that G4 had no problems.

Office where I work has bought seven G4 towers and two iMac G4s. One of the G4s had a bad motherboard from the factory. (Replaced by Apple under warranty.) Another has developed a bad power supply fan (makes a rattling noise) but still functions properly. It's about four years old.

Personally, I have two iBooks. The latch broke off on one; replaced by Apple under warranty. No other issues.

Macs are computers for non-computer geeks. They aren't customizable. Each computer is designed for a certain kind of user. That user is usually someone who is artistically inclined and needs to do creative work such as making albums or movies. Steven Soderbergh edited "The Limey" on a Mac. Dave Grohl edited one of his music videos on a Mac. It's also for those who aren't interested in playing video games 24/7. They just want it for basic features and handling music, video, photos, and DVD's. It's a lifestyle computer before there was anything like Windows Media Center. It's also nicer to look at and has a lot more features that make it fun and easy to use.

I am glad to hear that. I think the point of some good some bad has been made. And I realize this even with in the seperate forces (Mac users and PC users), there will always be that imbalance with user experiences. I appreciate hearin the positive and negative!

I went and played with one eMac and a G4 today. Nice, clean, impressive. But there is a learning curve. I see the initial flair of the Mac systems, but I put the eMac through the paces and keeping in mind it is not the highest end model system, I would not put it next to my PC that I have right now.

Saying that does not mean I am swayed one way or another yet. Still like the comments here.

I do have to wonder about one thing. The new iMac G5's have a 64 Bit processor...... ooo....aaaahh... But other than the OS and Photoshop sized programs, what is there that will really use the 64bit power. Nothing...yet! That is why I am not impressed with the comparisons made to current PC's and the G5. It already has a jump from 32bit to 64 bit to boost its performance.

Anyhow that is what I have flying around in my whitespace of a brain.

heh. I'm going out right now to repair a brand new Powerboob G4. Sounds like she's got all sorts of problems. It's only a month old.

on the other hand, you can show yourself as the uber-geek by actually customizing your mac. they're more customizable than you'd think. one thing you could try to do is to stuff the motherboard into a regular atx case. now that takes some real work.
