Any ideas what might be causing this monitor distortion?

I checked to see if it was the graphics card by connecting it to another computer, its the monitor for sure. Any ideas what part might be causing this? I have repaired and taken apart electronics in the past, so if its something that's fairly doable and doesn't cost much, I might try to fix this myself. A new monitor like this cost about $350.

See pic below.

Could it be that an internal ribbon cable slipped out of it's connector?

Also, just open it up and look for any swollen/leaking/burst capacitors. Usually those will be for the backlight, but you never know. See if you can see/find any other anomalies with a visual inspection of the circuit boards.

That looks like a physically broken (as in fractured) LCD.

Its not this, since sometimes the screen will look correct for a little bit. When this first started happening, it seemed to get worse the longer the monitor was on (heat). Now, it doe s it immediately after turning it on.

I guess the next step will be to dissemble it and inspect for anything obvious.
