Any ideas what I can do to access 'My Pictures'

I installed WinXP on my new SCSI hard drive, which used to be on my IDE HDD. When I did I forgot to unplug the IDE before doing the install on the SCSI drive.

I am trying to transfer the folder 'My Pictures' from the IDE to the SCSI drive but gives me Access Denied. I can't even open it....

Any ideas on how to copy them over?

I've tried Safe Mode, command.exe from within WinXP on SCSI drive, and I can't boot to the WinXP on the IDE HDD.

Just in case anyone says I can't install WinXP twice on a single machine, I do have 2 legit copies of XP with their own serial #'s 😉

Edit: Forgot to add WinXP Home.

Thank you.

I'm a little confused here. You have two copies on WinXP installed on the same machine? Your dual booting WinXP?

Have you tried taking ownership of the folder? Are you logged on as an Administrator? If you did install two copies of WinXP you can't get to that folder because only the User and Administrators group of your first WinXP installation can access it. You may be able to take ownership of that folder from inside the 2nd WinXP install. Or you can boot into the first install and give full rights to Everyone and then copy the files over.

He said he can't boot into the original (first) installation

have you tried copying everything inside the folder over rather than just copying the folder itself? can you view what is inside the folder on the IDE drive?

if you modified security permissions on the original install and if you haven't tried already...take ownership of the file.

my picture folder properties>security tab>advanced (lower right)>owner tab

edit: oops, mike already stated the previous. it's late ... what can i say 🙂

I should add that it's WinXP Home.

I am Admin on both installs of WinXP. I don't see an option on WinXP Home to be able to change the Rights to Everyone. If this were W2K I know where to look, but never did see it on WinXP Home. It is not "my picture folder properties>security tab>advanced (lower right)>owner tab"
