Any Ideas regarding my Q6600 load temps?

Dear fellow enthusiasts, any input regarding my dilemma will be much appreciated.

I have a Q6600 g0 running at 3.55 ghz on an Asus p5k board
After vdroop mod my bios volts are 1.4v and under load 1.416v
I have a Tuniq Tower and am using AS5.
Ambient temp is around 25 degrees celsius. and I keep my TT Xaser case cover off.

Idle temps for Cpu are 36 to 39 degrees celsius.
However after 15 minutes on Prime95 ( First test small ftp or something )
my temps jump to 77 degrees and hold.

Is this kind of a gap between idle and load temps normal? Am I doing something wrong?
Cpu and Heatsink have been lapped too.

System is stable enough for gaming which is enough for me and undergaming get to around high 60s maybe touching on 70 after a few hours.
I have used Coretemp and CpuZ for monitoring.

Please advice why my load temps are so high, Ive tried to run at 3.6 but prime95 fails after a few minutes and if i up the voltage any more it gets way too hot

Thx in advance

Don't let your core temps go much above 70C, no matter what heatsink you're using. And yes, those are normal temps, for anyone trying to run a Q6600 that fast, with only a Tuniq Tower. Do yourself a favor, and lower your overclock down to 3.2-3.4 Ghz.

If thats normal then im gonna start looking into watercooling.
Ive just heard of others running their quads only around the high 60s on air

The problem is a tunic tower is not the highest end air.

uhhh actually marc, some people get better temps on Quadcores with a tuniq over a 120extreme. :X

You need to list your ambients. Your quad is a very large heater when you pump voltage past 1.375

To be approx. your quad is putting out around 200W of heat. Not many air sinks can take this kind of heatload inside a case with poor airflow.

Im guessing its your ambients. For now take the side pannel off your case, and leave it open and see how the temps handle.

Also if you want to play with that much voltage i really recomend watercooling.

I actually got 2 80mm fans superglued together and blutacked next to my tuniq
with an 80mm exhaust fan sucking air out.
But yeh I think im going h20 cos these cpus have alot in them, i managed to load up vista on 4.0 ghz but wouldnt dare stress test.
BTW i had my previous chip e2140 running at 3.0 from 1.6 and using speedfan thought i was ok running 73 degrees underload.
Only after installing coretemp i realised i was 15 degrees off. Had it running like that for 2 months, and the cpu still works.

aigomorla, I am only at 1.408 load and 3420, but at the same vcore, I can run 3.6, and stable, but not F@H stable.... and my load temps are only 62c or so at that (57c @ 3420). So why the huge difference if not the HSF ? Because mine is lapped ? my cpu is not lapped, just the 120 extreme.
