Any ideas on runing cabling in an apartment?

Does anyone have ideas/sites/links on running telephone/UTP Cat5/cable through an apartment? We have a snakes nest of cables that need to be organized and properly run. The kicker is that it is an apartment and I can't just go poking holes in the floors & ceilings without later retribution. I just figure that some techs or geeks like me would have some experience in this area.

I did a search for
- running cable
- apartment cable
- telephone cable network
and turned up no relevant matches.
Can someone help me?

Thanks.

I run it outside the window. I wrapped the CAT 5 cable with cold and heat rated electrical tape 3 times for insulation and to keep the rain/snow off it. Been like this for years now. No problems.

i think the easiest way would be to just place it along the wall, and maybe tack them against the floor or baseboards

Do you share this apartment with your girlfriend/wife? If not, why do you care? :)

If it were just me there'd be cables everywhere.

Get white split loom tubing from Radio Shack's website (can't get it in the store). It comes up to an inch in diameter and white hides pretty well along the walls ;)

Ha! Once again, I find myself in total agreement with BoberFett. Being a happily divorced type guy, I HAVE CABLE RUNNING EVERYWHERE.

SWEET!
Thanks for the ideas guys.
I share the apartment with my other two friends. (Too bad I don;t have a gf) We have telephone & cable & LAN running all over the hall upstairs & downstairs too. I figure I should be able to nail some hooks to hold the cables along the base boards of the floors.
If this were my house I'd just leave it be or run 'em through the walls and worry about the mess later.
Thanks.

We have some of that two piece wire cover stuff in my apartment. Bottom attaches to the wall/ceiling with screws. Put the wires in, top clips over. I forget what it's called, but if you go to Home Depot you should be able to find it. Also, white electrical tape works wonders.

Along the floors, you should be able to pull the carpet back a wee bit and stuff the wires in there.

I remember my friend saying something about having special staples for wiring? He ran cat5 along the walls at his apartment following the base trim at the bottom of the walls and up the trim around the doors, and had them all stapled up really nice and neat. I'll find out more info next weekend when I go back down to LA to wire up my other friend's apartment in Westwood... yay for me and my 1000ft spool of cat5 ;)

Sounds like you need Conduit, or Panduit.
My living room was hard to wire, I used panduit to take it up
the wall to the ceiling, and then used double sided tape to
affix a molding strip right next to the ceiling. I tucked the wiring
up ontop of the molding. I bought the molding painted already. Gave
me a place to hide the wiring, while making the room look better.
