Any ideas about this NVIDIA branded GTX 970 reference card? EDIT: Now for sale at BB.

NVIDIA OEM brand is nothing new seeing that Best Buy commonly carries their "brand" cards. But I've never seen their stuff through Newegg.

Also, it's an interesting part for those looking to get the reference-style cooler on a 970.

I chatted with Newegg support, they say it is sold and fulfilled by Nvidia directly, but they can't give any information about what the hell it is exactly. Nvidia's website still only mentions non-reference 970's except for a "stock render" of a 970 with the titan style reference cooler.

I believe Nvidia did make some cards for some system builders and thats what this appears to be then. its not a card that is made for individual sale. at least not in the USA and/or not at this time.

That would be a great 970, if its using the 980 PCB and cooler. Good cooling, quiet and exhaust heat out your case.

I think OcUK has their own version of 970s where they order from AIBs made to that specification and using that cooler.

I think that the generic "Nvidia" branded cards at BestBuy, are actually distributed by either PNY or EVGA or one of the other major AIB mfgs. Nvidia themselves, I don't believe sells cards.

Edit: Foxconn makes them.

You can't be serious, how about the very first link in my post? It appears that a reference 970 is for sale on Newegg, in stock, shipping now from Newegg (i.e., not a foreign third-party) in the USA.

And feel free to quote to me where exactly you stated that you were specifically talking about 970 parts. To me, you seemed to be trying to refute the existence of "NVIDIA Brand" cards being sold to consumers in general; only as system builder parts.

at this point you have to be trolling. this will be my last comment on this.

AGAIN that 970 card is not for individual sale at newegg. it was part of promo bundle. that promo appears to have something to do with CyberpowerPC which is why I said some system builders did get some of those cards. the 770 is something you brought up not me and nothing to do with my comment. 🙄

I was able to add the part to my cart when I first made this post here (and on Reddit). So that's the source of my confusion in regard to Toyota's posts. It appears Newegg fixed whatever happened to me, as I too now get that error.

I apologize to Toyota and the forum if it seemed like I was trolling and/or goading. I was legitimately just asking if anyone knew anything about this part...and since I was able to add it to my cart, Toyota's answers made no sense. Go back and reread, and I think you'll see that truly was the source of my confusion...and again I apologize.

Obviously now, I realize that this is indeed just a system-builder only part, and not like the ones at Best Buy. So that answers my initial question.

Well, if it's a system-builder only part, it's meant to look reference for OEMs like Dell. As Toyota stated, these aren't meant for individuals to purchase.

You'll be able to find these for sale on eBay in about a year.

I had one of those Best Buy Nvidia branded cards,it was a gtx560 ti.Built pretty well honestly, the box itself was out of this world.Was priced well but eventually refunded my money and went another route.

That 560ti had a similar cooler to the ones commonly found on the Evga but the plastic was pretty sturdy and pretty much good quality. Not sure if you can find these cards still.

As far as I know, no reference GTX 970 exists, nor will it. In other words, the photo was of a mockup card.

What does the 970 that OEM builders are using look like? I.e, what 970 part is shipping with Dells?

I don't know about Dell, but OEMs are free to use any card they want. I believe iBuyPower uses MSI's 970 Gaming card.

The closest thing to OEM would probably be EVGA's blower-style 970. Given that EVGA is Nvidia's biggest U.S. partner, that's probably the most common card shipped with OEM systems.

I can't recall ever seeing anything but EVGA and PNY Geforces in big OEM boxes, unless said OEM makes their own, like MSI.

Toyota is bad at communicating. However he is correct. What he fails to point out is if you add it to your cart you will receive a message..

In my opinion the issue was a failure to communicate. I do not believe the user had added the item to their cart and Toyota never explained anything. He just kept saying its not available for sale. The user referenced the newegg link and instead of explaining that the link would not give individual sale, he simply repeated himself.

Communication is hard.
