Any idea when/if Sony is going to start recalling VAIO batteries?

My poor GF got baited long before I ever met her into buying a $2500 Sony laptop. Now she's affraid to get near it thinking that it might burst into flames. It seems to me that it's only a matter of time before it's announced that sony was affected by its own battery screw up... I was just wondering if there was any word on when we might expect an announcement...

As long as the battery came with the laptop, she should be OK. Sony only tries to burn down the homes of people that own non-VAIO laptops.

Sony proclaimed the reason Dell was having issues was because they didn't design them properly, and didn't have a saftey check on the battery to make sure that it wasn't getting too hot.

Sony provides batteries to almost all major laptop manufacturers, and only Apple/Dell had issues with their batches.

They could start going up, but I wouldn't sweat it too much. You can get a phatty settlement if it does. My Dell wasn't affected by the recall :)

edit: Sweet, Sony was pulling more PR BS like I thought when I read that article :)

A Ford Excursion's cruise control already took out one of her homes. She'd probably have a horiffic mental break if her laptop took out this one. It's not about the money. She needs some answers.

Nope. And I've seen pictures of at least one exploded thinkpad and Vaio.
