Any idea what this wall outlet is?

My sister recently moved to a new apartment, and she sent me a pic of this wall outlet. There's one in the hallway and master bedroom, both are above eye level. She's paranoid that there's cameras inside or something.

Apartment was built in the '80s, Southern California

Any idea what they are for? Maybe they're old outlets from something that was removed?

i would have covered with a picture or black electrical tape long before i did anything in that apartment. Or... i would find out who was taking the vids and ask for a copy or two

Take off the wall plates and cover it all with black tape, the put the plates back on.

Looks kind of like those things that hold the white buttons in them that you press.. they trigger the intercom at my school. Could very well be an intercom system.

AFAIK, they are for extra electrical/phone jacks. I would not loose my sleep over it.
