Any idea how well this P4 1.6A should OC?

FedEx just dropped off my 1.6A, but my case won't be here until Tuesday. It's an SL668 with a pack date of 04/02/02 and an FPO/BATCH # of 3208A542. Any word how these are OCing? The only thing I could find searching online was this which looks very promising. :)

Where do I find out my pack date? All I know is... my 1.6a will hit 2.4 at 1.45 actual voltage.

Two words: Whoo Ha!

I think that through the threads at MadOnion.com, it's pretty much been decided that pack date and batch don't mean as much as the version number. The version number would be under the FPO/Batch # on the side panel of the retail box.

If it says "A82110-003", then you've got a good chance of getting an above average overclock from it. A82110-002 processors seem to do almost as well, while A82110-001 versions have the most difficulty getting high clocks (though there have been some -001s well over 2.13Ghz)

Mine has a pack date of 03/27/02, and a version number of A82110-003. Batch # 3208A512. This thing is a cool, stable, demon.

Whoo, I have a version # of A82110-003! :D

Does anyone know if the batch numbers are in numerical order? If so, mine is just off from yours xzenwhenx, which should be a good sign. :)

Well... if our processors are cut from the same mold, Sukhoi, then you can sure get ready for some cool, stable, overclocking fun. Im taking it slow with mine. I dont know what she'll hit, but I know 2.4 here is stable, hardcore. Good luck man. Be sure to post and tell us what you get with yours. Go faster than me... and you can be my lab rat. MUAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!

Sukhoi - My P4 1.6a has the same pack date and batch number as yours. I got mine from Newegg just the other day. The box is at home right now so I don't know what version number it is.

I'm running it on a BD7II (also new) with some Mushkin PC3200 memory. I'm still experimenting with it...I did the wire vmod on the processor, which was pretty easy. This makes Default Vcore around 1.63v, and it runs a little warm...haven't seen it go over 55C yet though, even if I bump up the Vcore 10%.

I'm having a hell of a time finding the sweet spot for this Proc/mobo/memory. I think it just needs to be properly "burned-in". Right now I have it at 2279Mhz, at default (1.63v-with vmod) vcore and vmem (2.5). FSB is only at 137 with a 1:1 ratio, and a 4:1 PCI divider. Memory is at CAS2, 5-2-2. I've been running Prime95 for about 11 hours so far, and it hasn't failed or crashed yet.

I'm gonna leave it this way for a few more days, and run Prime95 while I'm sleeping/at work. This should break in the hardware enough...hopefully it will let me push it a little further in a few days.

xzenwhenx and Sukhoi....what motherboards are you running...and what settings are you using (fsb/ratios/timings, voltages)?

Thanks

Cool, I got mine from Newegg too. I ordered Sunday night and they shipped Monday. I have a Gigabyte 8IEXP. The system isn't put together yet because my case isn't coming until Tuesday.

Whoohoo! I was looking through the Overclockers.com database. One person has a 3208A541 running 2.4 GHz at 1.55V. :D There's a 3208A529 at 2.4 GHz at 1.6V. Another 3208A529 at 2.4 GHz at 1.5V. Yet another 3208A336 at 2.4 GHz at 1.5V. I hope my chip is as good as these. :)

Goofy, I have an earlier pack date than all of you, but I have a higher (which I'm guessing means later) FP/Batch.

My FPO/Batch is: 3208A563
My pack date is: 03/28/02

Sukhoi, when you get your processor, don't do the Wire Mod to increase Vcore voltage. We have the exact same chip, mine is Ver# A82110-003 also :)

I did the wire mod and the most I can get up to running stable is 2311mhz, 144FSB, 1:1, 66-33mhz fixed pci, +5% vcore, 2.6 Vmem, Cas1.5 (modded bios) 5-2-2.

Still not bad, but I have seen many forum posts here and elsewhere from people with similar 1.6a's without the Wire Mod that have done pretty well.

Let me know your results :)

I wasn't planning on doing the wire mod anyway. :) I'm starting the overclocking on Tuesady, so we'll see how it goes. I probably won't bump it up real high until Wednesday or Thursday though.

Jeez, what're you waiting for?!
My first boot wasn't even at stock speeds! LOL!

I booted up for the first time at 133fsb then to 140 then to 145 then to 150, stuck there for a while, then to 153, and finally to 155, now I'm back at 150 temporarily until I get my new hsf in, which should put me over 155. :p

I got mine in on Friday from NewEgg...

FPO/BATCH - 7210A510
Version - A82110-003
Pack Date - 4/30/02

It came out of the Philipinnes which is the first I have heard from there before. We shall see, but not for a couple weeks, the mobo I want doesn't come out until (rumored) July. Plus, I am waiting on PC1066 from Mushkin...
