Any how to's on mini pci antenna installs ?

Anyone know any how to guides on self-installing an antenna for a mini-pci slot? I'm referring to laptops that never had a wireless option (older models). Opening up the lappy is no problem, just want to know the basic orientation the antenna needs to be and any quirks that may come along, i.e. any manufacturer's use proprietary connectors, general advice, etc.
 
On ebay, you can usually find spare antennas for specific gateway/dell laptops. It might be pretty hard since they usually run up and into the LCD display. The antenna connector for a mini-pci wireless card should be all the same...at least from the ones I have seen.
