Shamans are probably the easiest (well maybe hunters are easier) and most fun class to level.

Just stick to enhancement, then decide which way you want to go at level 70.

Level 20-30 is a bad level range anyways, lower barrens and tm are not fun, if you can get past that you'll have more fun.

I have two 70 shaman, I was restoration-raid specced from the retail release until recently (short break 60->70 enhancement to level). I leveled the 2nd shaman while we mulled the possibility of myself swapping to enhancement for raids so I would be current with the spec.

Once you get windfury weapon and then dual wield/storm strike, you are probably the most overpowered class dps wise until the upper 60's. The ability to frontload your damage with a stormstrike/windfury proc opening virtually kills any normal mob outright, or at least brings it very low, so that a shock can usually finish it off.

You levelled up TWO shamans, rather than just respec as necessary? Talk about dedication.. Or something else.

The one i recently leveled up was just to get used to the spec while we waited to see if we would recruit a restoration or enhancement shaman to fill our shaman spot.

The recently leveled one is still enhancement specced, but not doing anything atm. I had to level something during that time period so I decided to make it a shaman. Next project is a druid.

(First shaman raiding Resto->raiding enhancement now)
(Second leveled enhancement recently, now just idle, stilll enhancement)

Shamans are strong raiders if specced resto or enhancement, strong in 5mans if specced resto and weak as hell in PvP no matter what spec they are. With gear and skill, you can succeed in weak areas with non-optimal specs. You can also bang your head against a wall until you pass out, knawimean? It should be noted that elemental shamans are strong in 5vs5 arenas, a very small subset of the PvP types available in the game. In all other forms of PvP they get their asses handed to them badly and should not be played for this reason, unless you have an S&M type fetish where you like being punished.

As to the thread... a 49 shaman is basically your PvP peak prior to 70. If that's your sort of thing. Grab a Kang the Decapitator, enter BG... and lay complete waste to most classes.

Leveling 60 to 70 became amazingly easy as enhancement once focused procs came into play. Never stop to drink, maybe a single LHW after a mob, and just keep going. I loved it actually. Too bad I only leveled him for 70 cash grinding.

Shamans are fun once you hit 30 and get Windfury Weapon. The amazing swirly goodness will make you giggle at the ownage. But it should be noted that Enhancement Shamans are quite gear dependent. I've seen some enhancement Shamans lay down some really bad DPS and it's not too hard when you look at their gear choices :p. I lol at the nubs that use daggers as a<edit>n enhancement</edit> Shaman.

Ditto.
Although I would go as far to say 20-39 was a bad range. I'm sure the recent (well, maybe not so recent anymore) leveling changes have helped, but when I did it, it was rough. Things got a lot better at 40. With dual weilding, grinding/questing went much faster.

Anyways, EarthwormJim nailed it. Stick to enhancement until 70. Then respec to what you want.

I hated leveling my Shaman though. I had such a damn hard time leveling my weapon skills so whenever I changed to something new, I missed so damn often and had such a tough time getting the last 20 points. Also, my defense was always 10+ points below the maximum, so if I wasn't higher than the quest, I'd get hit with crushing blows often :(. Using intellect buffs didn't seem to help much.

My guild has 2, used to have 3. Most times both raid with us, grouped with 2-3 hunters & 2-4 rogues. They put out exceptional damage and offer nice buffs, even to non-melee groups if needed. We have 2 resto shamans and an elemental too. Raiding is not the issue. PvP is, as well as being pigeonholed into resto for 5mans, to a lesser extent.

Eh, we'll see. Chances are they nerf it into complete worthlessness (like mage raid dps) before the patch goes live. Sorry, had to get some mage bitching in this post somewhere :p

Shamans seem to be the flavor of the month in terms of Multi boxing , seems like a lot of people are running 4 Shaman/1 Paly groups or 5 Shaman...

Been enh for...ever. Way before any honor points or anything. Definately be enh till 70. Shamans were overpowered for a long time when under level 60. They nerfed us and now we are mediocre at most everything except healing.

I am about to switch to elemental just for the fact that then I can do some ranged DPS and not get owned by AE damage on bosses.

Just like everyone else said, when you hit 70 then decide what spec you want to be.

Honestly if you're only going to roll one class I can't recommend a shaman. They're the most underpowered class in the game, and even though they are getting a slight buff soon, I don't think it is enough to make them good.

Enhancement sucks for arenas, its OK for BG's, but its a blast for raids.
Resto is boring IMO..and I enjoy healing.
Ele can be pretty good, but there are still numerous classes I'd take over a shammy...and my shammy was my first character. I still play him too.

I'm currently leveling a druid and hunter alt. talk about fun to play...and easy. Druids have 0 downtime, shaman's have to drink/heal themselves pretty often. At least when I played...we didn't have the niceities that shaman have now in enhancement. Same with hunter, you may drink a mana pot every now and then...doesn't really matter, but yo can take things on so easily. And you're OP for pvp so it makes it fun.

my druid is the most fun though, nearly impossible to get ganked with track humanoids and stealth + travel form. You can Tank, DPS, and PVP all in one spec up through 70, and up through 60 you can pretty much main heal with the right gear. Then at 70 go resto and be the most OP class in the game.

mage raid DPS is fine. the prob is 99% of mages need to L2P
