Any HDR for ATI?

I've noticed a lot of threads about HDR in FarCry, but only available on nV cards. Is there no way of enabling this for ATI cards, maybe a "wrapper" like the one created for nvidia's Dawn Demo?? Plus, what happened to HDR in HL2? I remember a sweet HDR video demo for HL2. Is there a way to enable this?

nope

the HDR in far cry is of the OpenEXR standard, and requires the hardware to be able to compute 32bit FP, Ati cannot do this as their architecture only calculates 24bit FP which is more than fine for DX9 anyway. the 24bit FP is also part of the reason ATI > Nv at pixel shaders, as nvidia must work in 32bit FP mode while ati flys along in 24Bit FP

HDR for HL2 isnt too far off, they are producing a level to be released through steam that will incorporate the HDR they showed us in the Promo Videos

Hopefully HL2 will support it. The HDR in farcry is based off FP32 architecture, so it wont. However, even the R300 supports HDR, so there is no reason why they wouldnt include it. Heck, when the first showed the HDR videos of hl2, it was running on a 9800 pro system.

If it was 32-bit floating point shaders ablities that let the Geforce6s do HDR in Far Cry, then the FX cards would be able to do it to as they also are cabable of FP32 shaders. However, it is the FP16 framebuffer uniqe to Geforce6 cards Which alows them to do HDR in Far Cry. Also, the floating poitn framebuffer of the Geforce6s does not work with AA, hence the reason HDR in Far Cry only works without AA.

thats its yeah, i also heard that you cant use AA because the HDR calculations use that bit of the gpu that is used to calculate AA algorithms

I believe you can't use AA with FP blending b/c the performance hit is already so great that nV didn't see the wisdom in throwing extra transistors for a super-slow implementation.

And FP32 doesn't run faster than FP24, it just requires more transistors. Assuming proportionally larger caches, FP32 hardware can calculate as quickly as FP24 hardware at the same speed. (You'll also note that nV's GF6 series appears to have more powerful pixel shaders than ATi's X series, according to synthetic tests.)

Hmmm. Interesting facts. Well, I guess we'll just have to wait for that HL2 level. Wonder if S.T.A.L.K.E.R will have HDR support....?
