I know :clock: Another waiting-for-price-drop thread

Last price drop was at the end of October, before that, it was in early August.

So a price drop could be due in January, considering that Intel is launching new processors and dropping prices for the 6xx series. AMD also just released the FX-60. There was a simultaneus drop in the price of the FX-57 only.

There was also an unexpected 50 $ retail price drop on the 3700+ Dan Diego just before Chrismas here in Canada, while other prices in the single and dual-core line-ups have remained stable.

But AMD has little reason to drop prices if the processors are flying off the shelves.

Does anybody have hard info?

No but either its going to be out earlier than people think or the motherboard manufacturers are ahead of the game. I guess the new RD580 ATI chipset is made for M2 also and I read a few snipets here and there about them having chipsets ready to go for the new socket alredy.

From what I've heard,

X2 5000+ should be out shortly after the FX60, and at that point, the main line X2 prices will drop.

Opteron 285/885 will be out sometime this month, and the DC opteron stock prices will drop down a notch as well. The 185, however, I haven't heard or read anything about.

Single cores? not a single clue.

Well, the FX60 came out yesterday according to This Article.. I also heard a rumor (not sure how accurate) that AM2 may come as early as end of February/early March. So I suppose it could be late in Q1.

I know, so rumour is that 5000+ will be out very soon. AM2 in Feb would be a major forward move for AMD's release schedule; is that really likely?

Mainline X2 price drop is what I am looking for. If the 5000+ X2 is out soon, a price drop before the end of January would fit nicely with the previous 3 month interval and as a reaction to Intel new processors.

After trying to video chat and game at the same time (dual monitors rock!), I've decided that I need dual-core sooner rather than later...definitely waiting on another price drop though :p

The release date, from what I understand, is scheduled partially by when Mobo manufacturers will have the new boards available. From what I'm hearing, many of the manufacturers are a step ahead on this one, and can meet the demands if there is an early release.

As to the likelyhood? Your guess is as good as mine.

price drops right now look like they're ONLY going to be on 2xx/8xx line. all that will happen is the processors dropping to the next lowest pricing level.

regarding the 1xx line: 185 should come out at the same time as the 285 which is slated for mid-february.

stay tuned...

I haven't heard anything on the 5000+ X2- Is this coming for socket 939 or socket M2? Thought it was only for socket M2 and AMD is not bringing any new models for 939. Hope I am wrong on this..

Well, the FX-60 is the last new 939 chip according to the latest info so if thats true the 5000+ has to be on the M2 line wouldnt it?
