Any graphic tablet pros?

My GF's bday is coming up, and I really want to get her one for her bday along with my Dell 2001FP LCD.

She's an amazingly talented painter, and she comes up with the most creative and mindblowing drawings.

What's a good decent graphics tablet for a starter for under $200?

Just make sure it's made by Wacom. That's my only advice.

I've tried two other tablets as they offered larger surface area's for a cheaper price than the Wacom's but they just don't come close to the precision.

Even if you can only afford a small Tablet she'll find it's more than big enough due to the precision of the unit and the fact that when you use programs such as photoshop you can obviously zoom in/out so never really need a large surface area.

I'd probably go for a Wacom Intuos 4x6 if you wanna stick to that 200 dollar budget. Otherwise, a Graphire 6x8 will be a bit cheaper with more real estate, but less techy goodness.

Yeah I was looking at some wacoms..
Is there anywhere I could get particularly good deals on?
Or should I just go with newegg?

definetly wacom, I own I think graphire2

And dont get too obsessed about the larger the better, on the computer you are zooming in and out so the size doesnt matter that much. Dont either go too small, go for medium sized within your budget.

hm i think 3d world magazine recently did a lineup...think its this months mag. wacom is overrated or something. another tablet came out with better bang for buck.
brand name eludes me🙁

Edit: Whoops, I guess I"m a bit trigger-happy . . ..

Amazon reviews to the rescue!!!

Coincidentally, I'm in the market for a tablet (for me to mess around with) - and found a pretty good deal on a 6x8 wacom if you're not fussy about whether it's a refurb or not - link
Granted, I"m not a student, but I know several that is . . . 😉

Edit2: Apparently that item anyone can order - I just called before putting in my order and it says everyone qualifies - a

She'll love it 🙂

The buttons and sliders on the Intuos are very useful, particularly if the tablet is used in the lap, away from the keyboard.

I own a 6x8 Intuos3 and I love it. And yes, those extra buttons and especially the two sliders are miracles. I don't know if I could work with anything smaller though, or even larger, 6x8 is like the perfect size for me.

Make sure she has the right programs too! Photoshop and Painter FTW.

Thanks! I got the refurb. Can't refuse it when it's $100 less - especially after being piled in debt lately due to car problems.

My sister has a 6x8 Graphire which works surprisingly well...the only problem is that the sensor in the pen doesn't pick up until you hold the pen about a centimeter away from the tablet...which can be painfully annoying. She's used to it though.

So no one actually confimed it was Aiptek. Someone just posts the name, someone else finds it on Amazon, and everything thinks this is the hot alternative to Wacom?

No, the person who posted the Amazon link was showing that it got low reviews, thus Aiptek probably wasn't the right name.
