Any good RPG turn based strategy games for PC?

In the same vein as Final Fantasy Tactics? With a progressing story through multiple maps, upgradable units through jobs & equipment, etc. So nothing like Civilization or those type of turn-based strategy(building units on a map). Flash games are ok too. Thanks

Have you tried out the King's Bounty series? It is like HOMM.

You roam around on a map with your character but battles take place on a hex grid with your armies. Great games imo, I recently finished the first one (KB The Legend) and it took me close to 83 hours according to Steam.

First thing I thought of was Age of Wonders II. It's a bit old, but you should be able to pick it up for a song.

I've been playing XCOM lately and I've definitely felt a strong resemblance to FFT. It's a turn based game with squad tactics and upgrades. If that is too dated, you can try UFO Alien Invasion, which is free and basically a fan made remake of XCOM UFO Defense. Not much of a storyline, however, the research aspect of the game provides a lot of background and some story.

Jagged Alliance 2 is old but good, squaddies level up / skill up but through practice not points you assign. There is a good variety of equipment (guns, clothing, grenades, ...) and it is repairable to improve the stats. Squaddies all have fun and unique personalities.

Fallout Tactics is fun with better graphics but combat isn't quite as deep and the squaddies have little personality.

Silent Storm looks pretty and has good combat, but loot is worthless and the squaddies have no personality at all during play.

Have you also tried Fable: the lost chapters?

Theres nothing like Final Fantasy Tactics on the computer. BUT, for turn based games I recommend Heroes of Might and Magic, speficially 3 and 5. Disciples 2 Gold Edition. Age of Wonders. And Kings Bounty.

HOMM3 is a lot of fun. Graphics are dated of course, but the gameplay and strategy are all there.

HOMM has the building/resource management thing going on, which it sounds like you don't want. King's Bounty is similar minus the building, so you might like that more.

Some of the Disgea games are on PC. If you haven't played them, they'd be worth a checkout, highly regarded.

I heard Heroes of Might and Magic 5 was pretty bad. 3 is still a rock solid title for gaming today.

Heroes of Might and Magic 5 is actually very good

6 and 7 are the ones to be avoided (multi-player never worked for either version; UbiSoft have stopped support)

I wonder if I own HOMM 5. I own one of the newer ones but I can't remember which one it is.

It isn't that great. It has been in a few humble bundle and on sale for below $5 (I think).
