The new TI-84 units make the TI-83 obsolete. It would make a nice collector's item though... don't you watch your Terminator movies?

just remember, when you travel back in time, you somehow end up naked, and everything around you spontaneously combusts...

Keep it unless you so desperately need money that you have to sell it. You won't get back what you paid for it, and it's a good calculator. I'm glad I still have my TI-89, I use it every now and then, albeit not any of the real advanced functions.

My girlfriend just bought the TI-84 Plus and one of those snazzy cases with the bright colors. She was pissing her pants she was so pumped. She's a big math freak. She had the TI-83 Silver but now it's obsolete apparently.

$110 for a calculator

My antichrist of a 9th grade math teacher told me to buy the 83 but didn't give the forewarning that "If you're going into Calc just save some time and cash and get the 89." I hate her.

Why do u need an 89 to do Calc?
We were barely allowed 83 when I took Calc I,II and III.
Only scientific calc is allowed on exams.
As far as I can understand, 89 does symbolic integration. But if you do that, why learn Calculus at all.

I won't allow an 89 in my calculus classes.
I want the students to learn how to do calculus... not how to push buttons on a calculator. It'd be akin to handing calculators to 1st grade students and claiming you taught them how to add, subtract, multiply and divide... all in one day.

Keep it, it comes in handy when you want to look at the calculation after you punched in the numbers. (shows errors in simple math easier)

I don't know, the first day I got into precal in junior year we were told to buy an 89 for those going into Calc. I still haven't gotten one because I'm cheap and lazy but doing differentiation by hand isn't too hard, integration by substitution on the other hand is a whole other mess.
