I was working on some physics homework and just thought to my self.. Hey, wouldnt it be nice if there was something like Maple out there but oriented towards physics?
Well.. just curious if there is. Thanks.

doh! i use both already... i was just wondering if there was something a little more specified towards physics, something with built in equations and such. like step by step problem solver.. etc. That would be an amazing piece of software.

There is certainly alot of specialized software out there in various domains. But I don't know of anything "general purpose" the way matlab, etc. is for math.

There are many programs out there like this. It depends on specifically what you want to do. The one that I use (because the school here has a site license) is FEMLAB, but there are many others that are similar. Like I said, which one is appropriate depends on your finances and what exactly you're trying to accomplish.
