I recently got the Sony trintron monitor and it has 3 lines going across, 1 up/down, the other 2 across, my learned lots of flast screen monitors have this problem, anybody know any flat screen monitors that dont have this problem?

It's not a problem, it's the price one pays for the best picture there is, IMO.

What you want to do is this: Look for Invar Shadow Mask monitors. Do not get an Aperture Grill monitor. There are good Shadow Mask monitors, but I don't know which ones they would be, I love my lines and the quality for which they stand.

Wait, so your saying if I get a Shadow Mask monitor it will be a worse picture this a aperture grill monitor?

LG Flatron monitors supposedly don't have the aperture grille lines going across.

Or else get a monitor with a shadow mask tube.

LG flatrons are awesome. Comparable to most upper end trinitrons in quality, but without the line/s.

No, it doesn't mean that you will have a worse picture than with the Sony. The AG vs SM will rage forever. I personally can't use an AG (sony) Monitor. I currently have the Samsung 955SL, very good monitor if Desktop space is at a premium. If you have lots of desktop space and want a good 19" monitor w/o lines try the 955DF. You won't regret it.

I second that Samsung 955DF. My friend has it and it's amazing. Most flat monitors have geometry problems, but that thing handles geometry better than my Hitachi CM771's which cost a crap load more...

Those lines used to bug me when I first got my monitor, but I don't even see them anymore. The picture is great. Better than any shadow mask monitor I've ever had.

when trinitron tech first came out years ago (two decades?) it was far superior to shadow mask. but shadow mask and aperture grille are pretty close now. you'll only tell any difference if you're doing some hard core graphics work, and even then only maybe.

The most annoying thing I find about SM is the hideous bulge that most of them have, and with AG, of course, are the lines.

Trust me, find a flatron to take a look at. You'll be surprised. The geometry on the three I've used have been much better than most of the trinis I've worked with.

Another vote for LG flatron, infact I will be buying a 19" LG Flatron 915FT to replace my old CTX-VL950 19" in a few weeks time, definetly good image on them.

If you dont want lines, your only option is to stay away from Aperture Grille monitors based on Sony's and Mitsubishi's technologies. If flatness is your thing, I would recommend the Samsung DynaFlat monitors, Hitachi ErgoFlat monitors, and LG Flatron monitors.
