I think I need to make something clear as I think you all have misunderstood what I need... I'm NOT looking for something for strength training. I'm not looking to rip my chest or build myself up to be able to bench 400lbs or anything. I'm looking to get rid of fat.... I'm not on a mission to build up the muscle on my body. Though, that will be a by product of the weight loss no doubt.

I do realize that strength training and losing weight are linked, but at this point, I don't think free weights are my best option for the types of excercise that I'd like to do. I'm looking to do shoulder press, fly weights, power crunches, leg press, and a few others. I'm not looking to build up my arms or anything...

Why wouldn't you want to build up your arms or cut your chest? Listen, just because you use freeweights doesn't mean you're going to all of a sudden be a huge bodybuilder. Infact, you won't, unless you do anabolic steroids. You ever look at those guys in men's magazines like Men's Health? I guarantee you they work out exactly like a bodybuilder does... and i guarantee you the only way you'll look like that is to work out like a bodybuilder.

Just buy a USED soloflex.

Check your local "trading post". I got a complete soloflex set with the butterfly and leg expansion for only $200.

I've bulked up from working out over 3 months. You can also download all the workout techniques from their website.

Bowflex, being newer, is harder to find on trading post... but $700 is not unreasonable.

Also, when the rubberband gets older, they could snap... I've snapped 2 5lb bands and one 10lb band... I had to buy replacement from soloflex... but they last for 3-4 years.

You could also just getting a doorframe chinning bar and a pair of push up grips. These will give you a crazy upperbody workout. You could then just add bodyweight squats, lunges, and crunches. Full body workout for like $20.

A gym is the best choice, it's hard to work out at home as "you can always do it later".... I don't know how many workout machines there are out there collecting dust, but there has to be lot's of them...

If you definently don't go want to go to a gym, free weights and a bench is the best advice i can give you...

Oh, and one more thing, a trainingpartner can help keeping your motivation up too...

Good luck!
