I'd like to build a site, mostly just for personal stuff, but I do want to share some files including maybe some that might be as large as 15 to 20 MB.

What's out there, I mean besides Geocities :) ?

Yeah, but he has half as many posts as you. So maybe he joined in 2000 but didn't make his first post until 2003?

site5.com is not free, but it's good and cheap. I've been there for 3 years without a hiccup.

i just got the CDI plan with Dreamhost.com for $9 something a year. There is a coupon code that drops it. But after the first year its more expensive. Its like 2400mb diskspace and 120gb of bandwidth or so and a free domain name. Not too shabby for $9 :) I read some reviews and they were all good.

Are you sure? I'm looking at their site and all I can see are plans for $9.95 a month.

Better be sure ;)

hostpc.com for $25 a year is good.

Disclaimer: Have been on the site for only a month or so but the support is fantastic. Was on ripplehost.com for 2 1/2 years before the recent fiasco and decided to move to hostpc.com

Yes it is $9.24 PER YEAR including a free domain, there is a coupon code (which cannot be posted here).

Search is your friend.

Another Hostpc.com note:

They rule.

They were very helpful with my plan upgrade (on Easter Sunday at that! I really didn't think I would talk to anyone until the next day) during the 2/1 sale. I ended up with 3200 mb storage/40 gb transfer for $8.99/month.

They are very good with software update notices (they use Installatron which automates the process for many webapps--picture galleries, blogs, forums, etc) and proactive on security. They will do what is necessary first and make sure everyone is notified after that (in the latest case, AwStats has had some severe security problems that can affect EVERYONE on a server).

Lastly, they upgrade their equipment, and have excellent support, through their online helpdesk and IRC. I just got to experience this with a server transfer, but their support was top-notch and quick.

So, yeah, they've impressed me and I'm happy I went with them. Hear too many horror stories regarding webhosting, I'm willing to pay for stability.
