Are you talking about a console game type controller?

If so, I've never been able to play 1st person shooters well with them. Keyboard and mouse are your best bets. If you're new to fps', it may take a while to get used to it, but in my opinion it's the only way to play an fps.

Bunker,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I'm looking for some kinda controller, like MS sidewinder or the likes that are good or maybe even designed for 1st person shooting. I totally agree with you on mouse and key is the only way to go, but this request is for a friend of mine. :)

Thrustmaster has a dual shock that might work similar to the PSX/2 versions but you will have to try it out.
I agree that you can't beat the mouse and Kbd. I have alot of difficulty playing a fps at my friend's place on his PS2 so I keep thinking they should make more support for USB kbd and mice cause then I'd use mine (like I use the kbd and mouse for my Dreamcast :) )

Yes, I beleave thay have a very good wireless one too.
But it is not going to play like Halo on XBoX does.
Microsoft did make a fps gamepad but no one liked it.
I forgot the name of it.

That MS gamepad is pretty cheap now and it's called the MS Sidewinder Dual Strike. It didn't catch on and I'm not sure if it was just cause noone uses pads on the PC, or if the initial price was too much, or if it just generally sucked. You can find it at EB for pretty cheap now too. I would still use the mouse and kbd though.

Gamepad for a FPS when you have the option of a mouse and keyboard

I think the question for me is can I get a keyboard and mouse for my console to play fps with. When I very first got a computer I wanted to do this same thing but it was because I didnt know any better:(

Hey man, I can play UT with my keyboard/mouse but I can also play it with my MS ForceFeedback 2 joystick and mouse. And I'm actually pretty dang good with my joystcik/mouse combo. :D Now a gamepad is another story. I don't care what gamepad you have, you are going to get smoked! You just can't look with a gamepad alone, and looking is key.

check this out

I use it for all my FPS gaming and even Starcraft and Warcraft3. You can map all the keys to your liking and even use Macros and stuff. I don't think it would work to well for someone who is left handed though, but I love it.

Hey Daxxx, I have a MS Strategic Commander here that I haven't set up yet (it's kind of like the Nostromo).
Do you use your mouse and Nostromo only? That's what I wanted to do, remove clutter and searching for keys when I can program what buttons do what and keep the controller small. Hopefully it works pretty good too.

Yes, I have my Nostromo in my left hand and my mouse in the right. I can't ever imagine going back. I never need to look down at the keyboard anymore. I highly recommend it.

Daxxax,

hmmm...sounds very interesting, but i must ask how Nostromo can be anymore different than your normal keyboard? Could you clearify it a bit? A friend of mine gets soar fingers from the keyboard after a while.... Does Nostromo prevent it? :)

I think it's just that the Nostromo and other "multi programmable" pads are easier to use cause of the orientation of the buttons and the simplicity of it (you only have to worry about 10-15 buttons or so) instead of using a big keyboard where you are constantly looking for buttons sometimes. I don't know if it will make your fingers hurt any less depending on how long it's being used (what are they doing anyway?) but at least it's a bit more comfortable to use, as is the Strategic Commander.
