i have some movies i'd like to watch on my ipod touch. they are in various formats like avi, mpg, mov, wmv, etc.

i've seen a number of apps that look pretty good but have some cost assoociated with them. i know on a PC i could probably use psp video 9 to convert to mp4 for viewing on the ipod touch but i don't often boot into windows and wouldn't want to do so just for video conversion.

anyone have any experience with free converters on mac os x?

thanks

I dunno any good free alternative, but if you decide to go the paid route... visualhub is nice. isquint will convert to ipod for free, but not sure how that'll look on an ipod touch screen.

You might want to check out Handbrake, I think it is primarily used for going from DVD to things like PSP, iPhone, aTV, stuff like that, but it might be able to handle going from AVI to MP4.

If not, then look into ffmpegx. It is shareware, paying for it unlocks dvdshrink-like capabilities as well as further audio and video options, but the free version will handle what you are looking to do just fine.
