Any good FPS's on the horizon?

I'm kind of in a slump with online FPS's right now. I really enjoyed BF3, but do not care for BF4 at all. Some of my past favorites were Day of Defeat, Counter-Strike and CS:Source, and all the Novalogic games (Delta Force series and Joint Ops). I don't care too much for sci-fi shooters, so I generally prefer WWII to modern settings. Along with not liking BF4, I also can't get into any of the CoD entries, or similar games like the newly released Warframe, and I didn't like CS:GO. My dream come true would be a new Day of Defeat being announced, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. So does anyone know of news or rumors of something in the works that I might be interested in?

Maybe you'll like Survarium (when it comes out).

It's a "survival" MMO FPS game that's sort of a spiritual successor to the STALKER series, but with a different setting (although still similar). Instead of being about the Zone and the fallout after the Chernobyl accident it's about a natural disaster that ultimately makes the environment hazardous and unpredictable (they kept the anomalies thing though, that's a direct nod to STALKER). There's a number of devs video updates on the game's development progress on YouTube and I believe they're nearing the closed-beta phase (last time I checked anyway).

And, well other than that one... with online features or specifically only for online play? That's a tough one to be honest, at least as far as being outside of science fiction is concerned. If you like WWII to modern settings then have you tried Medal of Honor? If not of course I would have suggested Call of Duty (the older ones up to CoD4 I guess) but you've played them. And sure Day of Defeat is good (the Source one that is, the older one was fun back then I loved it myself but it hasn't aged well in my opinion), I guess you could still keep it in mind for those occasional rainy week-end days when you're bored out of yourself.

The last FPS game I bought was Hard Reset and I love it, but it's very old-school style. That is at least game-play mechanics and levels design wise (for instance with rotating power-ups around, and small level secrets by blowing up walls, etc). It feels very much like DOOM or Quake with modern graphics, but I don't think that one would be your cup of tea.

Have you considered Planetside 2? It's semi-sci-fi'ish but the weapons aren't any different than what we have today, machine guns, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, etc.

I would just pay $4.20 and get the newest Humble Bundle which includes Natural Selection 2, Sanctum 2, and Serious Sam 3: BFE, all FPS games or have FPS components.

NS2 is sci-fi space marines vs aliens (think Aliens the film). Serious Sam 3 is the purest and craziest FPS out there. Don't know about Sanctum 2.

Planetside 2 also has a surprisingly accurate FPS component (bullet drop, high cone of fire for hipfire, increasing bloom if trigger is depressed, different vertical and horizontal recoil for different guns, decreased damage with range).

Thanks for the responses guys. I've taken a look at a few of the recommended games that I hadn't heard of, but nothing really piqued my interest. I might just have to write off 2014 for FPS's. Hopefully something will get announced that interests me. Until then, I'll probably just spend my time on Star Citizen.

Well it's been a year now. Still waiting for a new, decent FPS to spend my time on. I've been playing a lot of Red Orchestra 2, a little Insurgency, and BF3 still. BF Hardline is coming up soon but doesn't interest me in the slightest.

I'm really hoping for a decent 64 player WWII shooter to come along, or something that plays like Bad Company 2 from someone other than DICE.

Anyone know of any mods in the works that might interest me?

I feel like I am completely bored with first person shooters. The only one I really play on occasion is CSGO. Don't even get me started on single player first person shooters.

Well, the next Call of Duty (by Treyarch thankfully) is rumored to be going back to it's WWII roots. Now who knows if that's true or not, but if it is that will likely by it's very nature eliminate a some of the things some people complain about (odd perks, over the top killstreaks, etc).

Oh, you didn't hear? They have new perks for WWII, like Ark of the Covenant - Finally located by the Nazis, when Ark of the Covenant is dropped, all players who look at it are instantly killed!

UFO Strike! - You've never seen an air strike like this before! A squadron of Nazi UFOs flies over the map and shooting laser beams in their path! Pew! PEW!

Call of Pigeon Doodie - Carrier pigeons fly over the enemy radar, pooping on it, and blocking it for 3 minutes!

I'm not really buzzed for any new FPS games, the only thing on the horizon I care about is the new game, partly because Doom 3 was so damn good, but also because I love the idtech5 engine and what was done with games like Wolfenstien the new order.

I wish Carmack would drop the rift work and work on adding "mega geometry" to the idtech5 engine.

As a guy in his 'aging' 30s, I'm haven't been playing much FPS.

The last FPS I really enjoyed was surprisingly Crysis 3- a straight forward shooter with purdy environment. I tried FarCry 3 and just couldn't get into it. Too much lazy quests like 'fetch me this & that' like an awful MMORPG.

Oh Quake 4 came out of nowhere and I had a decent time enjoying it too.. Wow, is this already 3+ years ago?

I don't care much for upcoming FPS titles nor do I know what those are.

I am however excited for the new Doom- just because I'm nostalgic.

Been playing Soldier of Fortune 2 MP a bit lately. Its from like 2002 or something, but still a fun game. I like CTF and there aren't a lot of servers but there are 2 that are pretty decent I found. Unfortunately there's a lot of bots playing and the people who do play are usually insanely good.

Best FPS gameplay ever though.
