Any good FPS in last few years that are like BF1942 or TF2?

I just built a gaming rig and have tried some shooters released in last few years, like Bad Company 2, and I just can't get into them - so I'm not going to spend $60 on BF3. I can't see who's shooting me half the time, everything feels too digital (like shooting at a dot rather than a human), the maps don't feel spacious at all, and i'm not feeling the "fun" factor.

Something like 1942 would be great. In 1942 you can hear a plane getting closer because the propeller sound would get louder. You can see who is shooting at you for most part. Maps were big. And so on.

I added in TF2 because it's fun and again you can see who is shooting at you.

I would recommend checking out Battlefield 2 if you liked 1942. It's got all the good stuff about 1942 with updated graphics and all, without the more contrived parts of BC2. Plus it'll be much less expensive as it's now quite a few years old. enjoy!

BF2 is a good choice but some maps are a jet rape fest...as long as jets aren't in the maps he should be ok .

BF3... It has the BF2/BF1942 fun factor that IMO BC2 lacked.

C4 + Vehicle of any sort = hilarious manned bomb.

I tried Brink out when they had the free weekend on Steam awhile back. It basically felt like they took Team Fortress and Call of Duty and tried to combine them with a sledge hammer. In other words, good concept, poor execution.

Also check out BF2142. It is also quite enjoyable.

BF3 is not a good replacement for BF2. It's better than BFBC2, but it feels... consolized. I guess because it is. It feels like Apple designed the UI or something. I put in 11 hours and I'm kind of over it. I guess $5/hr isn't bad.
