If you're in to RPGs here's a few that I've had fun with playing coop in the past.
Diablo II
Dungeon Siege
Neverwinter Nights

Hidden and dangerous 1 has a decent co-op mode, and is available to download for free, with the expansion pack and graphic upgrade bundled in.

Unless he wants to have some LAN deathmatching against his brother, he doesn't need to get Call of Duty. There is no Co-Op mode in COD.

Are you asking for cooperative games or multiplayer games? I thought you meant cooperative but your original post makes it sound like you're looking for MP. Do a search in this forum for coop and/or co-op if that's what you were looking for, there've been a few threads asking that recently.

no LAN on ROTK either. two player on same rig only (1 on keyboard/mouse and 1 on gamepad)... which can still be kinda fun, except that both of you have to stay in the same little area so you'll remain onscreen.

Sorry for the nOOb question but What is coop? How does it differ from multi player on a network etc.? I had an old game (robot arena) that had a coop mode, but that was two people on the same computer with a split screen. Both of us used the same keyboard. Is that what you people are talking about?

The CO-OP mode that we are talking about is similar, but each person is at their own computer. Alot of newer games like Call of Duty don't have a CO-OP mode where you and your friends can play the single-player campaign as a group. It's not like typical deathmatching or LAN play where you are competing against your friends. Instead, you are playing together against the computer.

My brother and I still play Quake Co-op...it's a blast on the hardest settings.

A couple of great suggestions right there. Plus the games are both really really cheap, which is always nice.
